“Probably back to 3K/day range in Hubei.”

Maybe even more. Hell, they had 5000 yesterday just in the clinical diagnosis category.

“As someone put it yesterday, we are in the first inning. We may have just moved into the second inning.”

Agree. I’ll let the people here know when China’s turned the corner, as that will be when the ‘unofficial’ reports start matching the ‘official statistics’. So far ‘unofficial’ points to a number 20 to 100 times that of the ‘official - it came down a bit just now, so maybe 18 to 90 times.

From the news feeds, it looks like an outbreak has started in the U.K., but we’ll see.

The other problem, is that the virus multiplies deep in the lungs, due to its affinity for the ACES-2 receptor on cells.

So a nasal or throat swab won't necessarily pick up much virus, until amplification...and by then the patient is often *really* sick (20-30% are hospitalized; I think 30% or so of those are sent to the ICU; 15%-20% of those IN THE ICU end up dying.)

More or less, and not allowing for those welded into their apartment homes or shepherded into hastily constructed containment camps, or those who suddenly *drop down dead* on the street.

Inside China the numbers infected and serious condition have overrun the healthcare systems ability to take care of them in the citifies where the infected numbers are high, equipment and care provider wise.

This virus is a numbers game. You want to be in the first batch to get it if you must get it because as it exponentially spreads the less likely your are going to get the care you need if you become critical.

One other problem I heard tonight is that the people who get the virus can get it again as their bodies did not create an immunity to it after they had it the first time. Isn't that special.

if they’re kept segregated how do they pose a risk to enlisted? US Marshalls and the MPs/SPs aren’t going to let anyone near. But your concern is probably why military bases were chosen. How much worry would their neighbors have had were our fellow citizens housed in a town hotel or church meeting hall, or their own homes? How much harder to individually protect each location from the crazies that will crawl out of the woodwork? Pretty much every town has at least one wackadoodle. Like the March evacuee McCoy said, they liked the quarantine because it freed them of ‘stigmatism’ when returning home.

If his Presidency has taught me anything, it’s that he understands economics better than most people, especially politicians.

If you believe the official numbers you are not paying attention to what is happening in China. Even the CDC today said nicely that the numbers coming out of China were lies.

People in China have been putting their lives in danger to get video out. What is happening in quarantined areas are a nightmare of inhumanity. I do not think I will ever get some of the images out of my head.

I read the article but still can’t figure out if that’s 1000 each or 1000 total spread out between them. Anyone know?

Sure, lets infect 11 major cities.

in 2017 Trump called for more parm to be domestic.

I can’t post the direct link to this bloom berg article for FR do not post list, but their 2017 article says we produce 75% of what we need here in the USA and around 25% of our drugs are sourced off-shore. India is also a big producer of protective masks, booties, surg gowns, etc.

I believe that he has a deep HUMAN understanding, as well; and that aspect of his character has been absurdly misrepresented by his enemies.

I’ve heard that the nurses are having to take their masks off after about 6 hours and huff o2 because the masks are restricting breathing. Is it possible some of the ‘drop dead’ folks were suffocated from over-wearing masks?

I think I need 3 monitors...

Naw, you need one 80 inch curved monitor. I saw a programmer with one, it was amazing. Curved around the front of him.

China is changing how they report cases. The data now include "clinically diagnosed cases." I'm assuming that is rather than just the lab confirmed cases. This also affected today's death report. People who die without a lab report are now counted as dead.

We'll see how this pans out over the next few days.

Checked a veterinary drug supply and they have ampicillin at half-off.
Seems encouraging that they're confident of supply.

That's hardly the stuff of exponential growth.

The "other than China" numbers have more than doubled over the past 7 days. That's pretty much the same rate as China. If the infection continues to double every week outside China, then the containment has failed.

When the CDC first announced their precautions, they stated they were not trying to stop the virus, but slow it down. As if they don't believe it CAN be stopped. Looking at Wuhan vs the rest of China, it appears that Wuhan's hospitals have been overwhelmed by the "critical" patients, and they are not able to save those who's lungs are severely effected. Mortality everywhere EXCEPT Wuhan is much lower. So as long as ICU's are not overwhelmed, mortality is relatively low.

On a side note, I saw that the Miramar folks are begging for a more restrictive quarantine, as opposed to the current one with Zumba classes, card games, community meals, etc.
