14,800 new cases and 242 new deaths
they changed the way they classified cases
Dr Michael Lappin, chair of the WSAVAs One Health Committee, has encouraged all cat owners to keep their pets indoors for the time being.
Similarly, anyone who has recently travelled to China and is under a self-imposed quarantine was told to keep their pets with them.
Although there is no evidence of pets spreading the coronavirus pathogen at the moment, WSAVA noted this is a rapidly developing situation.
Dr Lappin has advised veterinarians to tell pet owners to:
Keep their companion animals with them if they are self-quarantined.
Keep cats inside.
Arrange for care for any animals left at home if family or friends are hospitalised.
Contact their veterinarian immediately if they have questions or concerns...
Dr Lappin said: There is still much we dont know about 2019-CoV and, while the priority is to bring the outbreak of the infection caused to people under control as soon as possible, we are concerned for animal welfare with reports of animals being abandoned or killed because their owners fear that they might carry the virus.

But last week they were playing down the risk. Would not even call it a pandemic. My theory- they are communists, therefore in their view we should all share the burden equally. A virus in every pot.
I pity the pets in affected areas of China. Between food shortages and owners in quarantine or worse, many of them are bound to perish.
CNN - A little slow on the uptake:
Novel coronavirus can be spread by people who arent exhibiting symptoms, CDC director says
From CNN’s Jacqueline Howard
Asymptomatic transmission of the novel coronavirus is possible, Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told CNN.

According to the video health officials check on them once a day and bring them whatever they need. I assume that means they are left to their own devices, to come and go, for 23+ hours a day. Of course they are not supposed to, but...
Based on the article I posted from the Uk earlier, this is no surprise. US doctors need to be telling their patients the same.

CDC will begin using the national flu surveillance tracking system with health departments in 5 cities to test patients with flu-like symptoms for #coronavirus. This is an important and prudent step thatll help identify outbreaks earlier. The cities are SF, LA, ATL, Chicago, NY
Cruise Ship Passenger In Sydney Harbour Being Tested For Coronavirus
The man from Singapore is believed to have fallen ill with a respiratory complaint, The Australian newspaper reports.
The Norwegian Jewel docked at Circular Quay in Sydney early Friday morning having reportedly travelled to other Australian ports.
It had arrived from New Zealand.
The ship has a capacity of 2376 people and 1060 crew.
“Many of us have camping and backpacking gear in our attics and basements that might not immediately come to mind.”
Watch out, pal. You’re treading very close to a ‘prepping’ mindset, when we know that only (us) nutcases believe in that. For all of the ‘normal’ people know that the government will attend to all of our needs, when all hell breaks loose.
Anyway, as I see it, assuming the worst:
1) We WILL keep utilities running, at least until the very end, and probably through it all. It may take people at gunpoint to keep running the generators, but we’ll do that, if necessary.
2) China will go back to what they were 50 years ago - a backwards, Third World country...or something close to that.
3) Pretty much EVERYTHING we imported from China will not be available, for years - that starts this week with a few empty spots at Walmart (not that I ever go there). Everything with Chinese content, the same - we see that in April (pretty much the end of our pharmaceutical supply). Everything that doesn’t rely on China to produce, but relies on Chinese tooling (such as every remaining car now built in the world), will be hit by late this year.
But don’t be paranoid, after all 10,000 people die of the flu every year...
News report we heard tonight. Authorities??? are telling tech companies to control “social media” virus “rumors. Swamp censorship alert.
The article above mentions ECMO, as a reference, the US has less than 300 ECMO machines.

Ha! I was raised by people who fled the commies with the shirts on their backs. We were taught that the only things that can't be taken from you are what's in your mind and what's in your heart. Learn, live a decent life, and be kind to those around you. You never know when you might be called upon to start over with nothing. Now that we're retired, I would really hate to lose everything and start over, but we value self sufficiency in this household. Nothing new under the sun.
I can't see this level of care being available to a large number of patients at once in any of our hospitals. I'd love to hear suggestions from people for home care to help with oxygenation. If this thing hits hard, home care may be all many people will have available.
