I was responding more to the fact of the search being a policy issue that others have raised rather than the pay issue. On the pay issue, I agree with the workers and the court - if you are required to do something to exit work, you should be paid for it. If you have to search me before I leave, I should clock out afterwards, not before.
Upthread there are people protesting the fact that there’s a search at all.
Well employers requiring searches before leaving is settled law... Employers can make this a condition of employment... If you don’t like it, you are welcome to find another job... but legally if done properly the employer has every right to require it.
