A pardon and commutation are different considerations for a criminal offense.

Why? Because then when he pardons Stone, Manafort et al he’s not favoring his guys over their guys.

To be fair and kind.

Then commute all the sentences of those in Federal prison. How much more fair and kind can you be than that?

It was a quid-pro-quo that got Blago fourteen years to begin with.

His wife was lobbying President Trump 2 years ago, and blaming Obama and his henchmen. Blagovitch did worse than break the law - he tried to defy the wishes of the Dem establishment.

I wonder if. Lago will convert to republican over the pardon? Obummer sure threw him under the bus!

Yeah just what we need, Blagojevich as a Republican. Maybe he can replace Pence on the ticket?

Why?

Because the guy had powerful enemies (who aren't particularly popular on FR).

He was railroaded.

Nobody here likes Blago. If Trump acts it will be because he thinks it’s the right and fair thing to do.

True. But think of the new fans from the other political party Trump will attract.

Or, maybe they'll just never give up hating him and us Deplorables. Law and order gets on their nerves.

Trump probably thinks that he might win Illinois, if he lets Blagojevich out of prison.

Then he's nuts. There isn't a big "Free Blago" movement in the state. People there figure he got what he deserved.

I lived in the Chicago area for about 17 years. I think that about 40% of the people, I know, think that Blago’s sentence was too long.

This is done for a prisoner who shows good behavior and his sentence is lessened.

A pardon wipes out the underlying offense. A commutation doesn’t.

It’s a commutation, not a pardon. It would not restore his voting rights as far as I know.

I disagree with light sentences for killers and sex offenders, but we should give them appropriate sentence, not reduce everyone else's sentence.

14 years is entirely appropriate for the crimes he commuted.

I love that there are so many Freepers who bemoan how Democrats don't get punished for their crimes. As soon as one actually gets punished, they don't like it.

Blagojevich got exactly what he deserved.

Yup. That’s exactly what the President would do.
