Gender Pronouns Can Be Tricky on Campus. Harvard Is Making Them Stick. The push for personal pronouns like “they/them” and “ze/hir” can ignite a power struggle in college classrooms. The Kennedy School of Government’s solution? Stickers.

For generations of future diplomats and cabinet officials educated at Harvard’s renowned John F. Kennedy School of Government, orientation day has come with a name placard that the students carry from class to class, so their professors can easily call on them.

When Diego Garcia Blum, 30, got his placard last fall, the first-year graduate student immediately took a Sharpie to it, writing “He/Him” next to the big block letters of his name. Other students did the same thing, writing “She/Her” and “They/Them.”

“Yup! Day 1,” Mr. Garcia Blum, recalled, adding, “That’s when I thought, the students are ahead of the school.”

But despite its reputation as a bastion of the establishment, the Kennedy School followed the students’ lead, agreeing to provide clear plastic stickers this semester with four pronoun options that students could apply to their name cards: “He/Him,” “She/Her,” “They/Them” and “Ze/Hir.”

“I think it’s valuable, generally speaking, to challenge the norm that you can assume a person’s gender based on appearances,” said Raven Graf, 25, a nonbinary student at Kennedy whose pronouns are they/them.

As young people who have grown up with a more expansive concept of gender identity bring those ideas to college classrooms, universities have responded in varying ways, with some professors and schools quickly accommodating a wider range of gender pronouns, and others struggling over whether and how to institute new policies.

Last week New York University said students would now be able to indicate their pronouns in the system that provides class rosters and seating charts to faculty members. At least 39 other schools allow students to indicate their pronouns on course rosters, according to a national clearinghouse maintained by the director of the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Stonewall Center.

by demanding government as the final arbiter of pronouns they will have no problem when their fascist leaders label them as expendible.

If the feminazi hags resurrect the moribund ERA, you will be sued by the federal government for firing these perverts. They will be legally added to the gender-free protected class.

What possible difference could it make in a college classroom to know someone’s peculiar sexual identity? You don’t address anyone with “their pronoun” anyway, whatever it may be.

This crazy trend seems only to be a form of narcissistic exhibitionism.

So does Vlad Putin. No queer marriages in Russia, either.

I recall the dad of one of my friends back in high school once told me that in his school days (some time in the 1950s)

I had a coach/math teacher invite a student (WW II Vet)into the ring. Result was the coach broke his own arm punching the student. Nothing happened to either as far as I can recall. Life went on.

Anyone who speaks to me must call me “His Royal Highness”.

Already been done.

I have no idea what led to the Ruskies calling everyone Comrade but this could have done it except Putin announced today there would be no queer marriages in Russia only Mums and Dads.

“A lot of students who are transitioning, trying to figure this out — there’s a lot of depression, their suicide rate is high, there’s a lot of emotional turmoil attached to that,” she said.

And then there’s a downside. I read the whole article. What the hell is a “ze/hir”? There used to be rules of journalism - “Who, What, Where, When and Why?” So what’s a “ze/hir” and why?

IT shouldn’t be stickers, the person/thing/whatever should have a toot across the middle of their forehead. Make it permanent. Something like a scarlet A.

“a more expansive concept of gender identity ...”

Marxist po-mo insanity that denies biological reality.

Recall that Clinton tried to kill language by ‘recognizing’ ebonics as a valid dialect of English. That idea got shot down.

Ebonics won't get you a job with this boomer either. And I won't even have meetings with people who speak Ebonics. Anyone that calls on me and degrades himself by not speaking standard English is politely excused and told, "learn how to communicate before you waste my time."

Is that racist? Absolutely not. Too many white boys try to speak ghetto because they think it is cool.

So why the big deal? Language is a cornerstone to our culture and western civilization.

There are simply too many people in college who shouldn’t be there and who have no actual purpose there. They can’t handle intellectual labor at college level, and have to contrive reasons to spend four years of their life there; this inevitably turns into a study of themselves and of the things that make them feel unhappy with themselves.

SJW activities result, and their first targets are the college they’re attending and their fellow students.

How about the teacher uses the students name? Seems a bit easier than calling someone Ze/Hir whatever the heck that means.
