I’ve driven that road many times, mostly taking friends and customers touring California. The area around Big Sur is one of my favorite spots in the world. its not at all “dangerous” - unless one is driving dangerously.

Just typical common sense, and adapting one’s driving to the road and visibility conditions is enough.

Then come to east TN and drive the Dragon along the western edge of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. It’s about eleven miles of narrow two lane road with well over 100 tight curves and totally loved by motorcycle riders all over the eastern US. Its narrowness and tight curves make CA 1 through the Big Sur look wide and straight. I know. I live in E TN about 60 miles from the Dragon and have driven it on a motorcycle and in a SUV. I also have relatives in CA and have driven CA 1.
