Seems like poor Pete was between a rock and a hard place. Conservatives were uncomfortable about his open homosexuality (and liberal policies). At the same time, Antifa types felt he wasn't gay enough. (What did they want him to do? Put on a dress?)
This shows the dilemma of anyone not of the "straight white male" paradigm. They're somehow supposed to represent or accommodate an entire "oppressed" group, to the extreme.
For this reason, while I commend Buttigieg for his public service, I am grateful he is out of the race.
