I suspect this is part of a DNC effort to get everyone even slightly to the right of Comrade Bernie to get out and give their delegates to a single candidate at the convention so on the second ballot that candidate will defeat Sanders. If Sanders goes into the convention with anything less than a majority of pledged delegates, he loses.

Steve Kelley had a cartoon on Feb. 23 with a woman telling a pollster: "The debate narrowed our choice to anyone but Sanders other than Bloomberg, Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Warren or Biden..."

That's still pretty much the case even with Buttigieg gone.
