Up to a million people could be tested for coronavirus by the end of week, the FDA said Monday, as cases across the US rose to more than 100 and health officials warned that the number will keep climbing.
Cases of the virus have now been reported in 12 states -- the majority of them in California and Washington state, where six people have died.
About a quarter of the current cases were likely transmitted through US communities, officials have said, meaning they were not travel-related. "My concern is as the next week or two or three go by, we're going to see a lot more community-related cases," Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said in a news conference Monday. "That's of great concern."
The number of cases has been climbing as new guidelines from health officials gave more labs the go-ahead to conduct tests. Faulty kits from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention initially led to delayed and inconclusive results.
Over the weekend, the US Food and Drug Administration further expanded who could test for the virus by allowing additional labs to develop their own tests for the virus. The move, FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn said, would enable academic centers and private companies to develop and use tests.
He said up to a million tests will likely be conducted by the end of this week.

If we were seeing one or two cases in third countries were the ill persons had just come from the US then I’d bet we have northern Italy scale infections in some area. Since we aren’t we can reasonably hope it has not yet reached that level here.
Maybe we shouldn’t have dismissed those conspiracy theories about Walmart FEMA Camps and the millions of body bags and coffins.
The following link was posted on the daily thread by lilfarmer. Article is about the genetic makeup of the virus as it mutates over time. It is going to get bad before it gets worse. He is basically saying that Seattle will be like Wuhan.

And I bet a WHOLE HECK OF A LOT of people got this thing and got better.
The Majority get mild or moderate symptoms with it.
Asians get hit with it harder and communist healthcare systems suck..hence the disaster in China.
I’d be curious to know how many had it and got better already.

Sure, some people likely died from what was chalked up to pneumonia or something else.
But I’d like to know how many got better and went on with life.

CA and WA have large Chinese populations. Many have traveled back to China at some point. So these cases can be “travel related,” even though the virus victims did not travel themselves.
That would be my guess. Even among those testing positive a large number have mild or no symptoms. And those are among people we have reason to test.
If we have community spread it has been here for a while. We have had a bad flu season i’m guessing some of those cases were corona virus. Outbreaks in nursing home will be impressive but an outbreak of norovirus or flu would cause similar fatalities among the debilitated. There is little that can be done to stop the spread so we will see the natural course here soon - but we certainly (thank God) do not have the thousands dead in the streets some were worried about. This may turn out to be like H1N1 - nasty for a season or two but not civilization altering

Surely you have seen where it started in China long before they admitted to Patient 0 and china told people to hide that fact.
