If this was a “pandemic about to break out” the death toll in China would all ready be in the millions.
It’s not
There are a number of people in the US Goverment, and Fake News, who are being despicably irresponsible in their rhetoric.
When this is over in a month or two, those people need to be held accountable for the criminal level incompetence and fear mongering.
It is under control in China because they shutdown the country, quarantined millions, and didn’t hand wave it and say it wasn’t as bad as the flu. If you take action, then the damage can be limited. If you play pretend with it, then it will spiral out of control. The political risk is under reacting, not overreacting.
14000 Americans died of the swine flu during the Obama yrs and hardly a mention in the commie press it was all about protecting o bama even though he waited months to declare an emergency
Once the world realizes that this virus is aerosol in its ability to infect, the societal change will be dramatic in the short term. Think measles or smallpox in that regard.
If you peel an orange in your house, and someone smells it in another room, an aerosol virus can spread that easily.
Large group events will disappear until a vaccine becomes available.
Believe the China numbers at your own risk. Instead, watch South Korea and Singapore. We will never accept Singapore level surveillance here, but they definitely are the gold standard of stopping the spread of this. South a Korea has done an amazing job of both testing and quarantine.
A nursing home here in Washington had a bunch of infected people, and the local EMTs and fire department arrived to evacuate them. These are young, healthy men. 38 of them are now in quarantine with 19 showing symptoms. Most had zero contact with the patients.
Your misinformation MNJohnnie is just as irresponsible as those who run around saying everyone will die.
Everyone needs to learn about this virus, keep a level head, and stay safe. We can defeat it through our hygiene and knowledge. Sticking your head in the sand, or up your ass, is DEADLY, especially for elderly or immune system compromised individuals.
My years of training for chemical warfare in the Army taught me to treat any possible pathogen as deadly first, and once it is determined to be less dangerous to lower your alert level.
Doing it the other way is how idiots die, or kill others.
China shut things down. Hundreds of millions stayed home. We need to do that here, too.
Since there is community transmission on at least 3 continents it already meets the definition of pandemic. No death toll threshold is required.
If you believe this is nothing, then just get out of the way and let the adults handle preparing for the possibility you are wrong. Maybe you should short some hand sanitizer stocks or something.
The only panic I see is from the normalcy-bias afflicted Meta Concern Trolls.
I saw that press conference on youtube, but now I can't find it.
Pretty much all the numbers we are seeing point to a diminishing rate of infection (% growth in the rate of new infections), Exceptions are Italy and Iran, the former likes lots of touchy kissy greetings, while Iran has people who think its a wonderfully positive activity to get in line to lick the tombstones of saints in Qom, one after the other.
IBTZ.
Do you think we should do away with travel bans from China and shut down quarantine centers?
