Doctors in the West may not be as good as ones in China at keeping coronavirus patients alive, a World Health Organization expert has said.
Dr Bruce Aylward, head of a WHO COVID-19 fact-finding mission in China, praised the 'sophisticated health care' being used in the nation.
Chinese doctors are 'really good' at keeping patients alive because they 'find cases fast, get them isolated, in treatment, and supported early', he said.
And Dr Aylward lauded Beijing' use of life-support machines to replace a patient's lung function if ventilation fails to help.
While praising China, he admitted the country's death rate thought to be less than one per cent could not be applied to the rest of the world.
He added 'a lot of people are dying' of coronavirus in Italy and Iran, where cases of the deadly infection have exploded in the past week.
More than 92,000 patients have been infected across the world and at least 3,100 have died.

Oh goody! Another self-proclaimed expert. From teh WHO, no less. Color me unimpressed.
I thought western European countries had all that great, socialized, free health care that was just the bee’s knee’s?
It’s my understand that a Chinese doctor died of the disease.
Iran has “Western” doctors?
Keeping them alive until they sell their organs.
Iran is a “western” country. Who knew?
Maybe the correlation for rate of spread is with hygiene standards.
Be interesting see how this spreads in Japan.
Chinese doctors have the most experience because it broke out in China first.
more than one
the first one they took hostage who tried to alert people died
another who was working non stop died. They are paying that family somthing like $91k
The WHO is brain dead...
How do they know that China is so cutting edge ???
Maybe the Chinese are not reporting all the deaths they have hidden behind falsified death certificates....
It would be easy to document a few extra thousand old dead Chinese as death by old age or old age related illnesses...
I’m sure scores die every day from lack of medical care and food etc...
We’re not slapping people without masks.
Running people down in the street with dog catcher loops.
Threatening that heads will roll if there are new cases.
Placing journalists “under control”.
Threatening doctors.
Burning people alive (rumor).
Welding people in their homes.
That’s “official” not real data.
No one believes the numbers out of China.
No one believes the numbers out of Iran.
South Korea appears to be up front. They are fighting uphill.
The WHO praises the ChiComs. The ChiComs pay the WHO.
Do the math.
btw, for those that haven’t seen it..someone here dug up why WHO isn’t calling it a pandemic.
There is a financial issue related to bonds about when they officially call a pandemic. Investors get screwed.
The coronavirus that first erupted in the central Chinese city of Wuhan only made global news in late January. But Li Wenliang tried to raise the alarm on it in December. He was one of eight doctors who posted accounts of the virus online, fearing that it showed human-to-human transmission.
The response from the local government was to send police to threaten him and force him to sign a statement saying he wouldnt make further trouble. The written statement said, We solemnly warn you: If you keep being stubborn, with such impertinence, and continue this illegal activity, you will be brought to justiceis that understood?
Li is now dead. His death was reported this morning by multiple outlets, including the highly respected Caixin and the party-owned Global Times. As news of his death spread like wildfire on social media, however, previous reports were deleted, as were threads about himone of which had recorded 5 million commentsand the claim was put out that he had been resuscitated though was still in critical condition.
It may be that Li was truly lingering on the edge of death. Or it may be that the government was terrified of the possibility of making a martyr. There are claims that Lis body was literally strapped back into life support when the extent of public anger online became clear. In the end, his employer stated he had died at 2:58 am Friday.
Li was confirmed to have the virus on Feb. 1. At just 34 years old, Li is one of the youngest known victims of the coronavirus. He is not the first medical worker to die, which was the 62-year-old Liang Wudong, and he will not be the last. There are estimates that over 500 health care workers are already infected.....
The Chinese are lying about their numbers. They should not be emulated in either deed or word.
Once we have BernieCare we can lie about our medical prowess as well. We’ll have to or be laughed at for being so stupid.
Got it, your ignorant emotional opinions are better then real data
Maybe it time to stop clinging to the emotional hysteria and deal in facts.
The World Health Organization says the coronavirus isnt yet a global pandemic. Bonds that insure against just such a catastrophe say that it probably is.
The bonds, sold in 2017 by the World Bank to raise money for poor countries in a global pandemic, are quoted as much as 40% below their face value following coronavirus outbreaks in countries such as Iran and Italy, according to investors who own the securities....
But i just read from these people that it causes permanent lung damage, so putting people whose lungs have failed on ventilators are creating people who are going to have permanently, seriously damaged/impaired lungs and more susceptible to illness and conditions.
Now you’re alive but trapped in a body starving for oxygen and you can’t do much of anything because your lungs don’t work...?
Because it not a pandemic. Not even much of an ephdemic
If it were a pandemic the death toll in China would be, by now, in the millions. It is not
Time to stop the drama queen social media hysterics and start acting like rational adults
