We Italians don’t like other groups using the word Mafia.
If you look the word Mafia up, you’ll see that it’s a criminal organizations that primarily had their start in Sicily.

The Westies resent being called “Mafia,” too. They regard themselves as freedom fighters for Northern Ireland.
Remember when it was an unwritten taboo for the press to use the word “Mafia”? You had to say “organized crime.”
Then Mario Cuomo criticized someone for using “Mafia” and the press rebelled against the attempted government control and went back to using “Mafia.” Made you like them for a few seconds.
