Weird that a perl driven site that probably used Date::Utils/DateTime has a shutdown exactly at the moment day light savings time happen - when an hour disappears from the chronology - but sure it was DDOS attack - you lost an hour and database probably barfed, a cronjob that backs crap got lost and hung that type of thing.
When you go down on Daylights Savings time the exact second it happens mostly its you its not "them" - I doubt the Free Republic went down because of malicious actors this time

Weird that a perl driven site that probably used Date::Utils/DateTime has a shutdown exactly at the moment day light savings time happen ... Pretty reasonable guess. It would be good to hear the post mortem, but we probably won't. There are a lot of people who believe in security through obscurity. They believe, for example, that by keeping the anti-DDOS algorithms secret, that gives them an advantage over the attackers.
That's actually true, until isn't true anymore.
