For 2019, in SF alone....234 folks died from overdosing of Fentanyl. No one said a word about those guys.
Interesting to note that China is heavily involved in Fake Media. I can post sources for that assertion if I’m reminded. They pour $ into certain media outlest, WaPo for one. As well as pouring $ into universities for propaganda and spying purposes.
Currently, there are very few threads on FR I can stand to read. Corona virus and others. The freaking out doom/n/gloomers are legion. There are several types.
1. Ignorant and believe Fake Media
2. Psychologically tweaked and wedded to “all is lost/we’re doomed” whatever the topic
3. Shills wantint to sow defeatism, hopelessness and fear
Snow flakes dont need Trump to melt.
Bill Maher’s dream coming true.
Just curious,
I just hope there are some in his administration who can be trusted to find the root cause, i.e., those responsible for conspiring to do this. Otherwise, there will be virus#2 after this one...sound crazy? When a defense cannot stop a football team from running the football, they keep running the same play. We’ll have no investments left, no jobs, economy totally in chaos, perfect for dictators. Gee, didn’t see that coming.
Now, that is one damn fine GIF!
Tells the story...
I apologize this is a long post, but I have been giving this some thought.
I admit, I am optimistic by nature, and work in Healthcare, so I feel that I can provide internal context that is helpful, and besides, I don’t trust a word out of the media and haven’t for decades.
In light of that, I feel equipped to look at this situation, and I feel like I have a reference point that has some validity. I am no expert on Epidemiology, but I have degrees in medical and scientific fields, and have read historical accounts of past epidemics, Plague, Yellow Fever, Malaria, Dysentery, etc so it isn’t completely greek to me, even if I do have a relatively superficial knowledge of them.
One of the interesting aspects of the Internet is that the underlying mechanics of contagious diseases which would formerly be completely obscure to all but the most geeky kinds of people outside the medical specialties that deal with those diseases are now presented to a wide spectrum of people, and that opens a can of worms that has to be taken into account, especially in this intentional media disinformation storm.
For example, in the past, relatively few people outside of Epidemiology or medicine in general would have known the meaning and significance a term such as “R0” (R-naught) in the context of contagious diseases. Now, there are masses of people who have heard of R0, and while knowledge is great and desirable, it is a double sided sword, in that it provides an entry point into manipulation by the darker aspects of human nature in politics and media.
When you watch the news, you hear and see talking heads, young beautiful women and handsome men throwing this term and others like it around, and even though they usually don’t have a smidgen more knowledge than those people they are directing their commentary towards, their bosses understand all too well the power of untethered knowledge in the hands of people who may not have the capability of putting those terms into a reality-based context.
“Normal” people will hear these terms, hear the dire tones of voice and see the serious facial expressions backstopped by big colorful graphics which often include people in hazmat suits and/or some poor living patient looking for all the world like a corpse being wheeled along on a containment stretcher. Even the more astute viewers will feel the pangs of anxiety while the less capable observers won’t feel a pang of anxiety, but instead will feel a tsunami of fear on seeing this collage being presented to them.
And it is being done deliberately, over and over again. I don’t watch television, but my wife does. And as I walk to and fro passing the television, especially during news cycles, I almost always have an audiobook or podcast on. (I have always been susceptible to visual manipulation of my emotions and have long recognized it, so I avoid things that strive to manipulate people in that way...like television in general, and thee media in particular)
The fact that I don’t hear what is going on makes the visuals the media puts on the air even more striking because visually you perceive things differently when it is not coupled with sound. Because I am not distracted by what they are saying, I can readily see what they are conveying (or trying to convey) which is fear. The wrinkled brow. The serious and somber mouth. The sad, concerned eyes. And none of that...none of it is incidental or accidental. It is intentional.
And I also see the frequency. If I walk past the television, I glance at it and see what they are presenting as I pass. Then, when I walk through again, I get another sample. And another.
What I have found is that, if you watch the media, you would think there is absolutely nothing else going on in this country or the world other than the coronavirus.
They hammer people with it. If I walk through the room and there is something else on, I can pause while they finish that segment, and invariably, the next item up is virus-related. Then the sports comes on. THAT is virus related.
The point is, people are being hammered incessantly with fear, and being given specific information that accentuates and heightens the fear in many people. I resent it, because it is both sadistic and destructive, but most of all, it is being done for political ends.
This contagion is worthy of respect and sober treatment, but what I see is a deliberate effort to use the other side, the destructive side of the sword to serve an end.
A great many people here say this is all a World Wide Conspiracy to destroy Trump, the Stock Market, and make conservatives look foolish over the flu.
They will be the first sheep demanding to be saved.
LOL, you could probably tell I have been cogitating a while on that.
I am sure, and understand, that I get a lot of “TL/DR” passes on a post like that, but...what am I going to do? At this stage of my life, I’m not likely to change. I have always been long-winded.
Even texting, I can’t condense messages into things like ‘CU BRB”
I have to write it all out...:). I guess I use LOL, so that’s progress.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
