A top Ohio health department official who said Thursday that 100,000 or more people in the state have coronavirus now says she was guesstimating to arrive at the alarming number.
I am not saying there are absolutely for certain 100,000 people, Dr. Amy Acton, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, said at a press conference Friday. Im saying Im guesstimating. If Im guesstimating community spread, thats my best number.
Acton raised eyebrows Thursday when she said that because there is community spread of coronavirus in Ohio, at least 1% of residents in the state are likely to have the virus.
Just the fact of community spread says at least one percent, at the very least one percent of our population, is carrying this virus in Ohio today. We have 11.7 million people, so the math is over 100,000, Acton said Thursday.

Oh, gee. Ya think? Sometimes I think it’s a prerequisite that people who work in government lose all common sense.
Ohio Health Dept. top Doc is a Democrat political activist
from Dec 2019....
“In 2008, Acton went by the name of Amy Beech. She had married Douglas W. Beech in 1989, and together they had three children. During the 2008 Presidential Campaign, Amy and her entire family were featured in a Wired.com article published on March 3, 2008. Amy Beech was a volunteer organizer for the Obama campaign who organized events, managed e-mail lists, and engaged potential voters on Facebook”
Well Ohio did elect Kasich. Stupid is closer than lack of common sense.
Im willing to bet that the coronavirus has been in this country it has gotten people sick since sometime in December. However only recently, probably after the incident at that nursing home in Washington, it made the media freak out about it and cause mass panic.
She just wanted to get on TV.
Every prediction is to some degree a guesstimate. Those who thought her statement that there “could be” 100,000 infected meant “there ARE” 100,000 infected aren’t terribly bright and don’t really deserve an apology.
Exactly, I believe the virus is winding down. Not up. It has been around and many of us has already passed through. It just that somebody brought to the the nursing homes.
Nothing like pouring some gasoline on the fires of panic.
This bitch should never have a job in the public sector again. Ever.
I’ve never liked DeWine.
Something about him is just off.
It doesn’t matter, she achieved her desired result...caused panic, and aided the media in their desire for mass hysteria.
She’s an idiot. She also said the mortality rate could be as high as 3.7%. Apparently Ohio, one of the last states to have its first case, will have 3,700 deaths over the next two weeks.
Spreading panic is the point. No lie is greater than “the cause”
So she’s pulling those numbers out of her a$$.
Ohio has tested 375 people with 26 positives...so in a state of 7 million I would think a better “guesstimate” at this stage of the epidemic would be 10,000....another few weeks and 100K might be about right.
What is her doctorate in, English?
Every prediction is to some degree a guesstimate. Those who thought her statement that there could be 100,000 infected meant there ARE 100,000 infected arent terribly bright and dont really deserve an apology.

Not surprised you’re defending this! You will have your pandemic come hell or high water.
"At least" is not an estimate, it has a firm limit on one end. In this case the firm limit is a minimum (according to Doc Obamaite).
