How Coronavirus Will Strengthen Trump's 2020 Campaign
American Thinker ^ | 03/17/2020 | Tim Jones

While the mainstream media have been running around yelling thtat the sky is falling and the left is criticizing Trump for not acting fast enough in curtailing the spread of the coronavirus, here's how it will end up helping Trump during his re-election campaign.  It will validate the need to continue with his two biggest campaign issues from 2016: building a wall on the Mexican border and getting the United States off its dependency with China by re-balancing trade.

He's already succeeded more than anyone would have thought possible with both of these issues.

When the presidential campaign begins in earnest this coming fall, the Coronavirus "crisis" will be long over with, so Trump will be able to raise it as an example of why the United States needs secure borders and to reduce our dependency on China, especially when it comes to prescription drugs that have been outsourced to China.  The best example is the production of antibiotics.  From "China's Lock on Drugs," published back in May of 2018:

China has exclusive manufacturing agreements for drugs for anesthesia, cancer and HIV/AIDS, along with other medicines that "we use every day, not only in hospitals but in our own medicine chests," Gibson says, adding that China is now the world's only source of antibiotics, including the main ingredient in vancomycin, a treatment of last resort that is used by patients who are suffering from infections that are resistant to other treatment.

The article goes on to say:

Multinational drug companies, many of them headquartered in the United States, began buying ingredients for critical drugs in China after the U.S.-China Fair Trade Agreement passed nearly two decades ago.  State-owned Chinese companies, buoyed by heavy government subsidies, set their prices so low

HERE’s THE OTHER ISSUE THE DEMOCRATS ARE WEAK AT: BORDER SECURITY

With regard to Trump’s issues on illegal immigration, the coronavirus crisis will demonstrate just how important it is to secure the country’s borders. Trump has already succeeded in building a large part of the border wall with Mexico that he promised in 2016, despite the “resistance” of the Democrats and their allies in the mainstream media. So during the 2020 campaign, how will Joe Biden, assuming he’s the Democrats’ presidential nominee, be able to criticize Trump for his hard line on the border? And how will Biden square an open borders policy with the circle of American health care security? The easy answer is that he won’t, and he will look like a fool if he tries.

The exact same argument can be made when it comes to the United States’ relationship with China. Joe Biden simply will not be able to make a cogent argument as to why Trump has been wrong when it came to the making major changes in dealing with China and putting the interests of the United States first. Trump will be able to point to his efforts at changing the country’s trade policy not just for the economic security of the United States, but for the safety and security of the health of every American.

I think this will result in a very fast decoupling of trade between the USA and China on a number of fronts. And we will see major tax reform to encourage manufacturing to return to the USA in a big way.

America will say no. Including shocking numbers of Democrats.

Given that SlowJoe is the presumptive opponent, I’m betting on Trump.

Things look pretty bleak right now — no thanks to the DNC’s many allies in the media fanning the flames of hysteria and blaming Trump — but things will have turned around by November. The stock market will rebound enthusiastically, Wuhan virus deaths will be fewer than promised and the media will finally have to reveal that its victims were in fact the susceptible elderly and otherwise unwell. This entire episode may very well strengthen support for Trump’s position on the border wall and the importance of home-grown industry and self-sufficiency. And the world is reminded once again of the filthy habits of the Chinese and the chronic deception and vicious inhumanity of Communism, especially as practiced by the Chinese.

Only 33% of Republicans think the crisis is real or serious.

Republicans have been told that it’s a manufactured panic that the media foisted on the country and they are disregarding it, and blaming their political enemies for the market damage.

This is productive. You have been on lockdown for what 48 hours and you are giving up. Man the nutters on here, it gets comical. Good thing you were not around December 8th 1941, you'd be curled up in the fetal position. I know "this is different". Things are always different.

Trump in landslide, I know trolly troll that makes your balloon knot pucker.

Do you have no sense of history? America has had a war-footing crisis before, many times.
............
Voters inherently support war-time presidents, and always vote for them to continue their work.
.............
All political discourse, from now on until this pandemic is over, will center around what President Trump says and does. Governor Cuomo just went on and on saying that “the President is doing the right thing”. Even Scarborough agrees.
...........
Period. Joe, go find a rocking chair on the porch.

"Trump is toast. No incumbent can survive the type of economic carnage that is in the process of unfolding..."

You are likely correct. Most elections are about the economy. No president can survive unemployment that could be 10% or greater in a fortnight. Real or imagined, Democrats are masters at not letting a crisis go to waste.

Academically, I agree with you. However, each case brings its own nuances. In this case, we have to consider who the alternative will be.

And of even more importance, we need to consider where we will be in November. If this was October, I’d say he would have a hard time. But a lot can happen between now and November.

Looks like the governor of New York is positioning himself as an alternative for the nomination at the Democrat convention. They can lean on Biden to drop out, give him a drug, etc. Biden will not be the nominee.

Andrew Cuomo speaks everyday before the cameras nationwide, even more than Fauci, and speaks in exalted terms about how a “take charge” leader should manage an epidemic. And he, of course, is that man.

It is a manufactured panic. The H1N1 was far worse. And of even more importance, it wasn’t killing those of us with one foot already in the grave. It was killing young people and children.

This is all political.
