Maybe the fear is because so many here are diabetic, obese, smoke, drink, and never taken responsibility for their own health. Since those types are the most likely victims of the virus, the blinding fear just kicked in.

The cold hard fact is that illness and disease are an ugly consequence of life on earth. This infection rate of this illness is not very different than other illnesses that receive little or no media attention.

Here in the US we have 16000 cases with well over half coming from three states.
This pandemic will end when herd immunity is reached by either vaccination or natural means. The quickest way to restore society is to lift restrictions while protecting the most vulnerable of the population.

The Chinese are lying like a rug. In the past few days are many reports of new cases in Wuhan being leaked to the outside world by citizens. Anyone who believes the Chinese numbers is a schmuck.

I am very confident you are right about the Chinese. I don’t believe anything they are telling us about infections or deaths in China.
OTOH, I have seen essentially no reports on what is the actual ground truth in either China or Wuhan
