I am stunned that the first time I posted this Free Republic pulled it. We have a county judge who arbitrarily shuts down commerce for 2.6 million people. How? Where does this Obama campaign worker, left wing activist, trial attorney lawyer turned judge get the right to destroy commerce for 2.6 million people?

I mean, I really don't understand how this happens.

There’s already a thread on this topic; perhaps yours was pulled due to duplication. The “judge” in this case functions as more of a county commissioner, due to a quirk in Texas law.

Last couple of year I was in the USAF I had shelter management classes during the Cold War. After I got out I became a civilian aircraft contractor and spent half the 90s out of the country. Was that when all of the civilians got their shelter training? I feel I missed something.

You are flat wrong, the declaration of national emergency has given vast powers to local, state and federal gov’t to do not only shelter in place orders but full quarantine enforced by the US military. Posse comatatus is not.valid during periods of declared national emergency. I served 11 years in 3 branches of the armed forces doing military and joint task force law enforcement and intelligence. The military will absolutely enforce quarantine in this case and every other national emergency. Our elected representatives have using the powers that they were elected to have ordered this. The Supremes have upheld quarantine and even internment camps ask the Japanese Americans about that. Modern-day Americans are too spoiled and moan like little children and pitch a fit when told what to do. News flash our government takes this serious as a heart attack and is implementing the only known strategy given the lack of effective vaccine. The malaria drug is not a cure it’s a at most 70% effective treatment which carries serious risks to a large number of people with unknown underlying renal, haptic, and cardiovascular diseases. Don’t bother arguments look up the relevant supreme court rulings Google will help you will have plent of time in the new few weeks to read all about it. Our government is doing exactly what they were elected to.do stop the spread of a pandemic. Economic growth or prosperity is not guaranteed in the constitution the right to life however is, and our.government is prioritizing life over economy as they should. Don’t like it November is coming vote in different representatives that’s how real life works. If I get called back which is a.distinct possibility as warrants and commissions are for life I will to the best of my ability enforce the lawful orders of our current government zero of that they have done is unconstitutional they are using laws that have been on the books and upheld by SCOTUS for a century in some cases. Chill out for two weeks its only two weeks to see what affect it has on the viral penetration rates. Dont make this government declare martial law , don’t doubt for a second they wont. My unit trained for this scenario many times you do not want marital law it gets ugly fast. Make no mistake officers such as myself will enforce marital law from a lawfully elected president and inline with a national emergency declaration.

You are correct it will get ugly fast.
Another thread said some 80,000 died of plain old flu 2017-2018 and we did not jump off cliffs over it. And there WAS the magic vaccine available.
IF there was a real reason for any of this I would be more inclined to see a point to it...not liking it but able to see the point. There are people sick but its in the very low thousands and deaths in the dozens.
This is excessive panic, imho. Millions of people out of work over mightmaybecould. While “life” is guaranteed in the constitution, as you note, so are “Liberty and the pursuit of happiness”
2 weeks is not too bad but already we are hearing that it could be months.
Months.
They can shove that.

Clay Jenkins made some other idiotic liberal edict a few years ago, in opposition to something our GOP Governor was doing.

I can’t recall what the issue was then, but it surely p-o’d Republicans.

Dallas is a Dem stronghold in Texas.

Full disclosure... I was bred, born and raised in Dallas in the ‘40s-’50s. Times were much better then!

I’m guessing you’re too young to have undergone the “duck and cover” drills that were prevalent for a few years in my elementary school from grade 1 (’48) until about grade 4.

Began with getting under desk and covering head with hands. Progressed to going into hall with tiled walls and getting into a small ball on knees while covering head with hands.

....where we used to live (Virginia) we had county
Boards of Supervisors.... everybody knew what that
meant.....down here (Texas) we have a “Commissioners
Court” which really isn’t a court....and a “Judge”
who really isn’t a judge, IMO....
