I have never thought of Fauci as a team player. I think in spite of his expertise he’s less than a necessity by the President’s side, but then if turned loose he’d be even more of a thorn.

But at the beginning of the interview, Fauci states that Trump listens to him and he agrees with Trump (on substance, not necessarily on how Trump delivers it)

"To his [Trump’s] credit, even though we disagree on some things, he listens. He goes his own way. He has his own style. But on substantive issues, he does listen to what I say."

The rest of the interview is just the "reporter" trying to get him to trash Trump. I think Fauci lied at the end as he figured out the "reporter" wasn't really interested in talking about the pandemic.
