I continue to think it quite likely that some peon at the L4 lab charged with disposing of / incinerating test specimen animals was sneaking some out to the wet markets. It unfortunately certainly fits with common Chinese business ethics.

I have that thought as well. I agree it started at a wet market, how it came to said market remains to be determined.
Pompeo is being quite diplomatic. He said the Chinese “could have put this virus in a much better place”. At the absolute minimum, they were accelerated the spread of the virus and covered up and continue to cover up the rate of growth and death rate.
It also occurs to me how the press is complicit in interfering in the readiness of the administration for emergencies in it’s all encompassing smear job since 2016.
My own opinion is it's either what you said (above) or it was weaponized and released.

That's bullshit. This thing was designed to attach to human cells and propagate itself quickly as this thing does.
