Am I alone in being concerned that a lot of us middle-aged nobodies are going to pull through from social distancing but our nation’s pool of future military leaders are this fragile?
No, you’re not alone. That was my first thought as well.
Soft living makes soft people
I agree. They had to be on the cusp to begin with.....to me, the really horrendous part of having to stay inside is not be able to save my job, my business, the whole country, etc. It’s like we’re all just sitting inside, watching society crumble.
My thought too. They only had to do it for a couple fo months and then they'd graduate.
I’m with you.
I’m with you.
What would happen to these folks if you parachuted them into Afholistan with a pack of MREs a rifle a kabar and told them to conduct surveillance while remaining cover.
At the same time it sounds like the military is having a really hard time figuring out how to operate through a health crisis, e.g. the Teddy Roosevelt.
I get the problem. The peacetime qualities that lead to promotion are bureaucratic rule-following and being a workaholic operating without sleep and without regard for personal health. You are expected to tough out illnesses or lack of sleep however deleterious for overall mission effectiveness.
The two seem to be on full display in our operating forces inability to figure out how to operate and keep people healthy so they can operate.
Sending them home? This is their home.
Wonder what they're gonna do if/when assigned remote like Alaska or Iceland....
How would they deal with being a leader and having to make an unpopular decision? Or deal with combat? Or be a P.O.W. and probably not be treated nicely but not break under the pressure?
“our nations pool of future military leaders are this fragile?”
I’m with you. Preppies and not leaders.
“Am I alone in being concerned that a lot of us middle-aged nobodies are going to pull through from social distancing but our nations pool of future military leaders are this fragile?”
I with you 1000%! How the HELL do people like this get into the AF Acadamy? Aren’t they screened for these sorts of things?
The nature of Gen X,Y,Z is they are extremely social creatures. We Boomers would walk into a new class and take our seats (by alphabetical order) open the book on our desk and read the first chapter, answer the questions at the end of the chapter, and sit quietly until our teacher called us to their desk to take care of class administration matters.
The new gens will enter a room, cluster and talk while setting up their social networks on their phones and be upset when the teacher asks them to sit and pay attention.
When a guest entered a boomer class we sat quietly out of respect for guests and authority figures while they discussed the issue at hand, the new gens assume if the teacher is talking freely with another they are also free to start conversations.
Different norms, different coping skills. I would venture one would find few “mountain men or pioneers” among the gen X,Y,Zers. Millenials will also find this a very tough time simply because they are asked to make a decision to follow a rule.
I do believe we will persevere in this time of trial and our economic juggernaut will light afterburners and be the saving grace for the people of our planet. WWG1WGA!

The last time I was outside was over two or 3weeks ago when I walked toward my car where our son was waiting so he could take me to Fort Campbell Commissary. Unfortunately he couldn't go in with me because he doesn't have a military ID card. He could get an Assistant card but he is to impatient to wait in line.
So he does our shopping at Walmart. I asked him to let me go with him when he told me that he was going to Wally world to get groceries. I asked him to let me go with him. His answer was I'm not gonna drag you around. I am handicapped and can only walk very slow or have to use one of those handicap riders
. So I made a shopping list out for what I wanted and gave it to him.
You’re not alone.
