Frankly, at this point, I don’t even know what the words “jobs lost” mean.

We have deliberately shuttered businesses. We provided SOME money for some of them to continue paying employees, but most of the money we spent on unemployment insurance upgrades, indicating that we expect people to get laid off, and counted as “unemployed”.

This is our goal. Griping about 6 million unemployed, when we specifically ASKED for those 6 million people to go home and be unemployed, is stupid.

a 30% unemployment is not a “failure” at this point, it is a SUCCESS of the announced strategy of getting people to isolate.

I’m not saying it is a good idea, but it is what the nation is working for, and it is annoying that the media keeps acting like this is some shock, or a negative consequence of something.

If we wanted people to still have jobs, we would have poured the 2 trillion entirely into programs that forced businesses to keep workers on payroll, and then reimbursed them for all the costs.

“Meanwhile...,

Wal-Mart: Open
Church: Closed

Billion Dollar Companies: Bailed Out
Americans: Broke

1st & 2nd Amendment: Suspended
Abortion: Continues”

Not really the country I thought we would have by now.

Its spreading like wildfire now, but slower in states with strong measures.

Summary of facts:.

All major countries in world have increasing rates of infection, many exponential. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/coronavirus-map-confirmed-cases-2020-n1120686

U.S. leads the world in number of cases, with more than 2x that of Italy who is second place (who knows about what China really has).

Exponential rate of increase in cases in US unabated. Six-fold increase in deaths over the past eight days in the U.S.

Cases seeded in almost every county in the U.S. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html

Death rate approaching 2.5 % in the U.S. now increasing. If number of critical patients exceeds hospital beds, ventilators, or medical staff needed to take care of patients, the death rate will increase significantly.

Recovered patients (old and young) left with lung damage.

My optimistic side tells me that once we can determine *quickly*; who has it, who doesn’t, who is now immune, and also effectively treat it (even if not perfect) - we should just open it all up.

Ok, so we open up everything and back to business and this thing starts to spread like wildfire again, what happens then?

Immunity starts building in and the virus dies out. Thats what happens EVERY year. What do we do NEXT year when it all starts up again, trash what little is left of the economy?

Ok, so we open up everything and back to business and this thing starts to spread like wildfire again, what happens then?

We live in Eastern King County Washington. My wife and I have been frequent visitors both paid and volunteers at the Life Care Center in Kirkland. We were hit with this thing, while people here were calling it a hoax. This is because we are home to half a million Chinese immigrants, many of whom visit home frequently, and host many of the three million Chinese who visit the USA every year.

The virus took its toll in this part of the county and then started receding about 2 weeks ago a day or two after the governor ordered everyone all over the state to stay home. You won't find much in the “official data” because the state stopped giving out much of the detailed data as soon as the media began noticing. They have blamed a software glitch. But the hospitals intensive care units here are back to normal and deaths are way down.

Much of this is masked in the data because the rest of the state is still in an upswing although Washington has dropped from number 1 to number 10 in cases according to John Hopkins as of yesterday.

I am writing because we had it spreading in the community for quite a while here before it was detected according to University of Washington researchers. The projections were catastrophic, but they did not materialize before it started fading away on its own. I know that they are having serious problems in New York City and other places where people are stacked on top of one another and they use buses, trains, and elevators to get back to their high rise apartments. But places more similar to where we live are likely to get better without overwhelming the health-care system and with about the same amount of deaths from pneumonia as a typical bad flu season.

The mask thing makes sense. That’s what they’ve done in Southh Korea.

And South Korea is still up and running.

There are three extreme measures:

The National Socialist Approach:
Have Corona-virus block parties, and let the 20% who go critical, just die off. Leaving the “strongest and fittest” to continue.

The Libertarian Approach:
Everyone decide on their own without government interference. Believing its a hoax anyway, or assuming its no worse than the flu.

The hard-core Communist Approach:
Shoot anyone who becomes infected (disabling his ability to spread the virus to weak and strong alike).

But I hope we can come to a more reasonable solution than these?

You forgot one:

The National Totalitarian Approach:
Assume the virus may kill us all and destroy the country through dictatorships demanding a total shutdown of the country and complete isolation of everyone instead of acting rationally.

The media will scream besides the democrats. Lives vs livelihoods. Die from virus or starve and watch your family and children starve. Government cannot feed and house all of us.

CA. numbers are SO LOW compared to population, Washington state who started this whole mess actually has under 300 fatalities both hospital ships EMPTY so the hospitals are NOT on overload with the exception of a very few districts in NY!! This has to STOP now the media has the American public completely freaked out it will be tough to get people back to normal!! The districts in NY that are not doing well with this virus have very high diabetes in their populations this virus is harmful to people that are overweight with diabetes and pre diabetes!!!
