Kentucky governor vetoes voter ID bill

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear on Friday vetoed a bill pushed by Republican lawmakers to require Kentucky residents to show a government-issued photo ID in order to vote.

In his veto message, the governor said the measure would create an obstacle to voting, resulting in fewer people casting ballots and “undermining our democracy.”

Beshear, a former state attorney general, added that the bill seeks to “resolve a problem that does not exist," pointing to the absence of voter impersonation cases in Kentucky.

Secretary of State Michael Adams urged lawmakers to override the veto. The measure passed the Senate and House by wide enough margins to overcome a veto. The GOP-led legislature is scheduled to reconvene April 13.

“I ask the legislators of both parties who believe in election integrity and passed this law to override this regrettable veto, and I hope the governor will eventually join me in governing from the center,” Adams said in a statement.

Adams, a Republican, campaigned on the issue en route to his election victory last year. The bill's lead sponsor is GOP Sen. Robby Mills.

The measure would require Kentucky residents to produce a photo ID when voting, with limited exceptions, starting with the November election.

Probably why Trump went out of his way to plug voter ID yesterday.

Those against voter ID are either in on voter fraud or are racist and don’t believe minorities are smart enough to get a voter ID. Unbelievable.

Having to show a government-issued photo ID in order to vote would make voter fraud more difficult.

That's why the Democrat Party opposes it.

Contrary to accepted ideology - seemingly on both sides of the aisle: voting should not be easy. It should be difficult. That’s the crucial test of serious citizenship - and would eliminate a lot of the leeches.

Congratulations, Kentucky. The republican governor Bevan in a red state was so "unlikable" that you dolts voted in a Dem. You reap what you sow.

One can only hope that the GOP overrides this travesty.

But voters who can’t identify themselves doesn’t ‘undermine our democracy’? Strange.

If you can’t show ID to vote, then you shouldn’t be able to receive ANY tax payer funded “benefits”.

Lawmakers need to try a different tack: Forbid anyone (government or private) from requiring MORE ID than must be presented to vote. Listen to the Libs howl over that as they dredge up all the reasons why ID MUST be shown all the time.

If you don’t need an ID to vote, then you don’t need one to board a plane, rent a car, at the liquor store, etc.

Democrat rejection of voter ID is proof positive that they want cheating.

Sooner or later, we will have to deal with Democrats.

In ways which they will not like.

If you are a democrat and everything you enjoy in life depends on getting elected, of course you will do anything to preserve voter fraud!

Voter fraud is what put Little Andy Beshear in office. Not Bevin’s unpopularity. That was the last election run by Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes daughter of Jerry Lundergan former bundler for Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign.
Just prior to Ky’s last election he was found guilty of illegal campaign fundraising for Allison’s last campaign. Voter fraud has been a way of life for Ky Democrats for years. Andy will pull out all stops to keep voter fraud in the toolbox.

Fraud prevention always imposes SOME obstacle to voting. Is an ID card an unreasonable obstacle? Don’t think so — people who buy liquor, want to drive a car, or apply for welfare have no trouble getting an ID card.

Should ANY Citizen ever be required to produce any greater proof of Identification to ANY Government Employee or Agency, than that which is required to Register to Vote or Vote in a Public Election??

I SAY NO

If thats what you want for a state or local election, find. If its a federal election, then states should have no say in it at all!
