That’s actually been one of the problems in reporting. You could have a heart attack and die because of the heart attack but if you tested positive for COVID-19 then it’s a COVID-19 death which is BS.

Anyone (else) think that the cause/effect waters are being muddied ?

I think so, perhaps on purpose. I used to be of the mind that the deaths were key because they were harder to fudge...unlike # of cases. I’m not so sure now with this new directive which will surely increase the death total reported. Comparing apples to apples is now harder to do...since in prior years if you died of pneumonia, for example, but also had a virus like the flu it was usually reported “pneumonia” as the cause of death not the flu in many, if not most cases.

Crank into the equation the financial incentive to code the deaths as Covid-19. Lots of bucks, and whose gonna check behind you?

They are pumping up the numbers to instill fear to prolong this and further kill the economy. What I’m sure we will be hearing when trump says lets get back to work, “trump wants us to die for Exxon and Boeing profits” the media and politicians will be in overdrive. The rats now have everyone on unemployment, dependent on government a dream come true

The democrats and the media have careers based on political power. So long as the maintain, and increase their political power, they are fine. Most do not like capitalism any way.

Exactly! Especially if you are a doctor in a setting with idiots for hospital administration. You have to conform to their ideals or pack it up and move elsewhere.

So someone dies with fever, hypoxia and viral pneumonia during a pandemic.guess what they died of?

We do this all the time in medicine.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Plus, hospitals get 100% of bill paid for covid19 patients. No insurance ok. No co pays

How are the seasonal flu death running this year?

How are the pneumonia deaths running this year?

Pardon the re-post, but:

I’ve been crunching available comparative stats up, down and sideways for almost a month now. The stats coming out of Korea, which has employed compulsory testing in infected areas (i.e., not testing only presumed symptomatic individuals), are clearly the most definitive to date; stats from China are junk; CDC has decentralized statistical tracking since labs throughout the states have stood up testing; and stats coming out of Europe are all over the place. I’m sure you’ve read the stories about Italy and their testing/tracking data.

Consider:

Number of pneumonia and flu-related deaths in the US since Week 40, 2019 - the “official” beginning of the 2019/2020 flu season: 88,902 (There’s a reason CDC tracks and associates flu and pneumonia; the relationship between flu and pneumonia has been acknowledged and studied since the 40’s, but the relationship is difficult to quantify since tracking is decentralized and reporting standards are inconsistent.) Annual infection rates of influenza are believed to be between 8 and 10 percent, based on hospital and outpatient visits.

Number of pneumonia and flu-related deaths in the US since Week 3, 2020 (When COVID-19 was first identified in the US): 39,212

Number of COVID-19-related deaths in the US since Week 3, 2020: ~8,800

Number of worldwide COVID-19-related deaths to date: 47,245 (Some believe that China’s statistics are understated)

South Korea (as of 4/3/2020):
Total Tested: 443,273
Total Positive: 10,062 (2.2%)
Total Negative: 414,303 (93,5%)
Number of Deaths: 174 (1.7% - 174/10062)
Active: 3,867
Recovered: 6,021 (~60%)

...and draw your own conclusions.

As a critical care physician i try to be as precise as possible. We are at first scientists. Let’s say I have a patient with a zillion comorbidities. They get corona virus and struggle and die. Well in my judgment the corona virus kicked them over the cliff. In this case it is the proximal cause of death. So this is what it would be listed as

1. Acute hypodermic respiratory failure as a result of
2. SARS related to CoVId 19.

Associated causes of death: Morbid obesity, CAD, uncontrolled type II DM snd COPD

The above is a hypothetical example

But Iif someone dies related to ARDS but there is no positive test you can’t call it due to whatever the topic of the day is. It’s why the code not otherwise specified exists.

And with all due respect to my ER colleague I have never in 20 years of medicine seen an ER doc follow up a patient on the floor. They have a complex job is arrive at a decision and make the best guess as to level of care. I believe they are doing the best they can but like everyone else (me included) our judgments become a function of our experience.

I’m beginning to think these news sources like “Jim Hoft” and “Christina Laila” and people who post here like “Impimp” and “SeekandFind” are not Americans. They are Chinese puppets trying to deflect the blame from the Chinese, and to maximize the death and destruction from the virus by lulling people into a false sense of security. Otherwise I can’t understand why they would lie and distort facts every day.

Only Jim Robinson knows for sure.

Lots of bucks is an understatment’ TRILLIONS of bucks are in the offing...and TRILLIONS more are being schemed as we speak, especially by the left. With that kind of money on the table, people are going to chase it like they do toilet paper.

Nonclinical hospital administrators is the mother of all evil in healthcare. It’s truly time we take back our profession and throw these harlots out. They add nothing to the equation.

Yesterday’s thread on an AT article discussed the real numbers who are dying SOLEY from Covid-19.

https://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3831634/posts

From the AT article:

” “The best immediate data breakdown that goes into all factors of coronavirus fatalities in the United States has been generated by New York City.

Since the beginning of the outbreak in February to April 2, the City recorded 48,200 cases, 9,700 hospitalizations (20% of total cases) and 1,397 deaths (2.8% of total cases).

70% of all deaths were patients over 65. Only 18 of the 1,397 fatalities were directly attributable to the coronavirus.

Of the balance (1,379) 75% had confirmed underlying conditions and 25% were waiting for confirmation of which pre-existing conditions were present. These conditions included: diabetes, lung disease, cancer, immunodeficiency and heart disease.

In Italy the death rate directly attributable solely to the coronavirus is 0.014% and in New York City 0.03%.”

Read that last line again. In NY, the death toll ONLY from Covid-19 is 3 in 10,000. I’ll take those chances. If you are otherwise medically fine, you should be fine going back to work. Quarantine the sick and nobody else! That’s what SK did and their economy is still rocking!!!

Same for the annual flu. Gotta keep those vax dollars rolling in. Thanks to the subjection of medical staff to forced vax to feed their families.. its pretty big biz.
Would love to see congress and their immediate familiys investments in this.

Just because they don’t share a certain worldview doesn’t make them Chinese puppets. I tend to fall doe on their side than the panic side. It’s debate. It’s what it is. What I do know is that when attacks become personal over a disagreement in opinion is a typical left leaning tactic. One should reinforce an argument instead of raising the voice.

If you have CHF, diabetes, lung cancer, High blood pressure, you are knocking on death’s door. If you catch a cold—another xoronavirus—and die, did the cold kill you? Could be.

Normally, nobody cares. But if cold death numbers result in free ventilators and other supplies, and OT reimbursements, yeah, you might include that code in the death. In fact, you would be encouraged to do so. OK, still local problem, and not many would care.

But if those same cold death stats were also being used to justify quarantining the entire country, shutting down the economy, THAT would be a problem.

And THAT’S what is happening!!!
