Pennsylvania schools ordered to remain closed until end of academic year

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania schools will remain shuttered for the rest of the academic year because of the coronavirus pandemic that has sickened thousands and caused hundreds of deaths statewide, the governor said Thursday.

The extended shutdown order, issued by Gov. Tom Wolf's education secretary, affects more than 1.7 million students in public and private K-12 schools. It means children will spend the rest of the year learning remotely. It also wipes out school plays and concerts, sporting events, field trips, proms and everything else that typically happens during the spring.

“While this was a critical step for us to take to protect as many people as possible, it was not an easy decision to make,” Wolf said. "We all know that Pennsylvania's schools are about more than academics.”

We all know that closing Pennsylvania's schools is about more than academics...

This is about beating Donald Trump.

“When school children start paying union dues, that’s when I’ll start representing the interests of school children.”

Albert Shanker, head of United Federation of Teachers

So will there be a Class of 2020 released into the world, forever being asked at interviews, “Ah well, class of 2020...umm do you have a GED?”

Recently this a hat declared that all real estate contracts signed after March 6th cannot be completed. I fail to see how that has anything to do with the carnival virus. But then, the same a hat who closed the state truck stops, and had to reopen them or face no deliveries to his state, may have to defend this in court, and lose, as he has no authority over private contracts IMO.

Just point them to old “Schoolhouse Rock” videos on YouTube, they’ll learn more watching those than they’ll learn in school.

My idiot neighbors think they should get HOA fees back since the clubhouses and polls are closed. They don’t realize that if they do that then in six months the fees will raise even more. People are stupid.

Agreed. This will prove to be a very foolish decision. ( Unfortunately SOP in Pa.) How much is this going to cost to try and rectify 6 months from now? Also where is the often used headline from the media “ minorities will be hurt most “ . Which in this case I believe will be true.
