After reading the article I think I just read a diversion from the “created in a laboratory” theory for the purpose of keeping the origin of the virus questionable.

A questionable origin lessens the righteous suspicions of Chinese intent, and diffuses the fact the Chinese lied, and the World suffers for their lies. IOW creates a discussion that can be, and will be used to divert blame from the Chinese Communist government. The slightly ajar door that can be pushed open with the right pressures by the Chinese, and their sycophants

I think this is more Chinese Propaganda.

There’s the possibility that the PLA intentionally released it to turn voters against capitalism. Commies see capitalism as an unregulated, chaotic weakness in contrast to authoritarian communism. An epidemic caused by a synthetic virus would be just the ticket, because it could do more harm of that sort than a natural germ.
