Governor to extend order to May 15 (NM - Dem Gov)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | April 22, 2020 | Dan Boyd

SANTA FE – With New Mexico’s coronavirus infection rates showing signs of flattening and the state’s testing capacity increasing, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said Wednesday that state officials can begin gradually easing up on business restrictions.

But the governor said that New Mexicans should not let up on social distancing and that she will soon be extending a statewide stay-at-home order through May 15. The order is now scheduled to expire May 1.

Lujan Grisham also said that a 15-member Economic Recovery Council will provide the Governor’s Office with advice about the slow reopening of the state’s economy and that New Mexico mayors will also be closely involved in the decision-making.

“We will get this right in New Mexico,” she said during a news briefing at the state Capitol that was streamed online.

However, the governor did not say specifically when closed businesses might be allowed to reopen, saying that would depend on case trends and other criteria.

The announcement comes as business groups and some county commissions around New Mexico have been increasingly calling on Lujan Grisham to lay out a plan for reopening stores that were closed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Nearly halt of all 2,379 cases in New Mexico have occurred among Navajo and Pueblo Native Americans though their population in the state is just over ten percent. Also, most cases have been reported in the populated areas of ABQ, Santa Fe and the surrounding metro areas. The rest of the state outside of these areas and the reservations have had minimum cases. However, not withstanding these facts, the governor is keeping the other, more rural areas, of the state under lockdown and local business groups are becoming more vocal in opposing the closure and stay at home orders.

Sounds similar to NevaDUH. Clark county (LV) and the Truckee meadows area (Reno) are the bigger hitters. The other 95% of the state is doing pretty well. We have a feeling our gov sissypants is going to follow suit and “think” about 5/15.

Gotta be there for Stimulus 2. Blackmailing the taxpayer to support unconstitutional edicts in exchange for liability bailout money like California is doing?

This isn’t all about being progressive and having control. Some of it is that nobody on the left has the guts to be “first”. They don’t want the blowback of having a resurgence of the virus hanging over them during their next election.

On the other hand, since they ARE progressives, they also see no problem with continuing to hold heavy handed orders over you and aren’t worried about you losing your job, your livelihood, and your savings. It just doesn’t factor into their worldview.

It seems as if every time we get close to the end of the lockdown date, they then extended two or three more weeks at that point.

So then if people start getting more restless about it, the powers-that-be will say well it’s just another two weeks.

We were originally told that the need for staying at home was to flatten the curve so that Healthcare Providers would not be overwhelmed. But it seems as if for the reasoning has morphed into them saying that we want to completely halt the spread of the virus, which then necessitates extending the lockdown.

And irony of ironies, in the time of a national emergency due to this virus, hospitals are empty and some have laid off employees. The expected flood a virus patients just has not materialized.

Great., Just Great. Crush the already tenuous NM economy. Way to go, Governorlissima Lujan.

Doesn’t much effect me because I hate going to town anyway, but I hate to see normal people who aren’t ‘essential service’ workers on the way to bankruptcy, poverty.

My working theory for NM is that Idris Elba (or one of his crew) was “Patient Zero”.

He was one of the first diagnosed cases in New Mexico.

There were a few folks who tested positive very early that had traveled from europe (maybe Italy) through NYC.

Maybe, but they probably didn’t give it to too many people.

Idris Elba was one of the first 10-15 people to test positive in the state, He got it from either London or LA and he probably took selfies with many, many people before he was tested.

We’re still pretty low in numbers, but to listen to the Governor there’s bodies stacking up in the streets.
