Well she was also a Senator and SOS. Not saying she was good but she used those titles as her qualifications and the media touted them as well.

Hillary Clinton played a big role in her husband's campaign and administration. Michelle Obama just went where they told her and said what she was supposed to. She didn't have input into strategy or policy, as Hillary Clinton did.

Then Hillary got herself elected to the Senate twice. She may not have been much as a senator, but she got the credential on her resume and demonstrated that she could handle herself in debates. Michelle Obama, not so much.
