Stockholm Expected To Reach Herd Immunity In May, Swedish Ambassador to U.S. Says
NPR ^ | 04/26/2020 | H.J. Mai

Sweden's ambassador to the U.S. believes the country's controversial strategy of pursuing "herd immunity" — and not locking down the country — is bearing success, with the capital Stockholm on course to reach herd immunity in the next few weeks.

"About 30% of people in Stockholm have reached a level of immunity," Karin Ulrika Olofsdotter told NPR. "We could reach herd immunity in the capital as early as next month."

Herd immunity means the majority of a given population has become immune to an infectious disease by either recovering from it or through vaccination. Some researchers have put the threshold for coronavirus herd immunity at 60% in some areas.

There is no scientific proof, however, that people who have recovered from COVID-19 are actually protected from a second infection. The World Health Organization on Friday said the idea that one-time infection can lead to immunity remains unproven.

Olofsdotter agreed that more research and testing is needed to answer the lingering question regarding immunity. The Swedish government is ready to change its strategy should the situation require it, but there are currently no plans to switch course, she said.

Schools, restaurants and malls have remained open in Sweden. The government has issued social distancing guidelines, discouraged nonessential travel and recommended that people over 70 stay at home. Authorities also banned gatherings of more than 50 people and visits to nursing homes are prohibited.

People enjoy high temperatures on April 22 in Stockholm. Sweden has not imposed the extraordinary lockdown measures seen across Europe.

idiot press.

“ There is no scientific proof, however, that people who have recovered from COVID-19 are actually protected from a second infection. The World Health Organization on Friday said the idea that one-time infection can lead to immunity remains unproven.”

No duh.

New disease, the only ‘proof’ will come by doing.

But the general rule holds true for other infectious disease.

The article leaves out that this is the norm for infectious diseases and there is also no reason to believe it is not the case.

Everytime you see a pronouncement from the WHO you can generally believe the opposite in cases where there is significant doubt.

As does the opposite.

The WHO is apparently a buncha know-nothings.

I heard on Breitbart news that about 1/2 of Swedes live alone and that they have been largely avoiding Restaurants and Bars.

Don't know how true this is or how much the Swedish experience is going to teach us.

This whole thing about calling it herd immunity bothers me. Sounds like something the commies or the earth firsters would say to lower the value of people. I would feel more comfortable calling it population wide immunity.

I'm sure we'll be hearing lots more about how Sweden is unlike the US (just like any country in the world is unlike every other) just to try to keep the "must lock-down for your own good" narrative alive.

From midnight last night

Sweden and It's Neighbors, Who Has the Best Tactic Againt COVID-19?

Sweeden is doing their own thing with regard to isolating. I think most people
are aware of it by now.

Here are some numbers to help us look at this issue.

I hate to say it, because I want people back at work, but it seems to me
that Sweden has shown what going back to work might wind up doing. I
don't think it has to be that way, if folks are careful. From what I've
seen it doesn't seem like the Swedish people are careful. I may be off
base on that though. I only know what I've seen presented in the limited
media I observe.

At the end of the day, we all have to find a median point between
destroying our societies and allowing too many deaths.

Finland is still looking good.

And the article points out that their death rate far exceeds other Nordic countries like Denmark and Finland.

Acts have consequences. In this case it seems to be Swedish people.

Yup. Actions have consequences.

Don’t bother telling that to the FR brigade of epidemiologists and infectious disease experts.
