Since the Trump administration will not take the risk of just saying we are going to open NOW, they'll probably succeed.
To paraphrase their hero FDR they live by the motto: we have everything to fear itself.
This great opportunity to try out a total command-and-control regime was not entirely a wasted effort. It brought into sharp focus just what we are fighting against in finally getting a chance to try out the American Experiment in relatively pure form, the Trump resurgence. Allowing the greatest number of individual initiatives to proceed, and relieving the double burdens of inappropriate taxation and excessive regulation, was in the process of initiating one of the greatest of economic booms this country has ever known.
Then SLAM! The door to that future was suddenly closed for what are, more and more, largely specious reasons, due to a rapidly contagious and largely unknown disease, with unknown effects on various demographics.
The world knows VASTLY more about the spread, treatment, and effective strategies in dealing with this new plague than was known six weeks ago, and we seem to be gaining some momentum in containment and prevention of future recurrences. But there is a large and dedicated minority that wants to deny everything already learned, and continue the original strategy, not for medical or proven scientific reasons, but for economic control through command tactics.
