I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but I would not put a bit of market manipulation past Tyson

Let’s say you have some plants specifically serving restaurants and food service. They have not been doing well at all the last 6 weeks. So you shift some production to other plants, and declare to the media those closed plants “have coronavirus.”

Knowing the fear-mongering media will grab on to it, then use the opportunity to tell customers - sorry - price is going up 25%! Its all over the news!

This is great news. As we all know farming and especially animal husbandry are generating toxic greenhouse gasses which cause Climate Change. Now we will have less mammals causing Climate Change. We are all saved.

Is it any mystery as to why every Corona “sacrifice” fulfills a Progressive fantasy?

Isn’t it highly suspicious and convenient that this coronavirus is serving as the perfect opportunity for the progressive, globalist RATS to impose their policies upon the United States??!!

If measures aren’t taken immediately to get our country back to some semblance of normalcy, we will all be foraging for food as Venezuelans are today by diving into dumpsters and eating any creature they can get their hands on.

What good has this drastic shutdown achieved when you have authorities in places like New York ditching Covid-19 patients in Nursing Homes to convalesce, spreading the scourge to the most vulnerable??!!

Enough is enough!!

Invoke Defense Production Act on food processors if necessary.

Order people to go on the gutting line? Maybe a draft on the young and healthy? Have them live in barracks out in SD and IA and SC?

Well I guess we’ll see how long the 800+lbs of grass fed beef, pork, chicken and venison in my freezer will last among 3 people. Not to mention the two wild turkeys we just shot. Time to go fishin.

You’re probably right.

The whole idea bothers me, though. They make it sound like Tyson is the ONLY meat company in the country. Far from it.

When the county health official shuts you down because HUNDREDS of your employees at a processing plant are infected, hospitalized and even dead...you don’t just ‘open it back up’.

This is fear porn. Most processing plants are running at reduced hours because of reduced demand from the shut down restaurant industry.

Trump can easily order the USDA to give emergency certification to the thousands of non-USDA small processing plants dotted around the US that generally do custom processing for people who already purchase their meat on the hoof farm direct.

We have excess capacity. While a plant being closed temporarily might result in some local or regional supply issues, it’s really just a matter of reorienting the supply chain. Disruptions will be temporary and minor.

They won’t stay closed, they will be cleaned and reopened in a couple of weeks.

If Tyson keeps them closed longer than that, it’s because they don’t really need them because of reduced demand, or because they want to engage in a little profiteering by forcing farmers to accept less, while charging retailers more.

Bottom line, they are not containing anything. This pandemic has been a travesty and a horror to the American economy.

For all of the budding greenies and socialists out there, this will be what it was like in the Communist bloc countries. If this doesn't change soon, you will actually be living in an 'new norma;'.

These plants are ‘essential’. They were never shut down. No different from grocery stores and pharmacies.

It’s also going through the frozen foods production plants as well.

This is how you ‘get’ herd immunity. Whoever decided ‘getting herd immunity’ was done painlessly wasn’t paying attention to the real world.

Most of these workers will be back at work in a few weeks, the virus patient *I* know was out for 5 weeks with it. Sick for 3 and 2 waiting for a negative virus test.

[Our 2 local grocers(1 large Texas chain, 1 small town chain) had meat shortages about 1 month ago when folks from Houston and San Antonio came through cleaning out meats prior to “rationing”. Our local farmers, ranchers, feed stores, and actual leaders out here began “processing” a few of the thousands of cows, chickens, hogs, and other farm products to resale direct to local residents only via feed stores and other outlets.

Tyson who?]

People have been “processing” livestock outside of meat processing plants since man started roaming the earth. That’s what butchers used to do. You’d think the USDA would loosen its regulations about who gets to process meat, given the situation at hand. It’s not like farmers lack the ability to “process” livestock.

“I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but I would not put a bit of market manipulation past Tyson.”

Not being snarky, but isn’t that classic Captain Obvious? For Tyson, market manipulation isn’t something nefarious, but is about survival as a business, and that quickly can turn into `anything goes’.

Maybe PDJT should task his USDA to issue an as-objective-as-possible prediction of meat futures & availability, with the purpose of maintaining calm amongst consumers.

“Buy our meats and stock your freezers now, before it’s too late!!” seems to be the opposite message coming from Tyson.

Uh...just thought of something. Aren’t unsold livestock piling up now, just like the milk? Wouldn’t Tyson want to encourage panic buying, process that meat on the hoof into products, and make some extra dough-re-mi? Not conspiratorial, just market forces at work.
