Facing fierce blowback, House Democratic leadership announced Tuesday the House will not resume session next week as planned because of risks associated with the coronavirus pandemi c.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer declared the sudden about-face a day after a lawmakers revolted. He said after discussions with the Capitol physician, the risk was too great. The physician has privately warned senior lawmakers it will be at least a year before Congress can return to business as usual.

“We will not come back next week,” Hoyer told reporters on a conference call. “But we hope to come back very soon.”

Hoyer, D-Md., said that because the Washington, D.C., area remains a “hotspot” under stay-home orders — with the numbers of cases “going up and not down ”— the House’s nearly 435 lawmakers and staff will not be asked to return.

Leaders of both parties had announced the House and Senate would return May 4. But the congressional physician’s view was there is a “risk” to members, Hoyer said. …

One would think this was their plan.
Get their friends in the media to run around with their hair on fire.

Congress yet again admits it is non-essential.

Furlough them with no pay.

A year. Are they going to get paid for that year? Is this what the founding fathers had in mind? Or were they thinking part-time per diem pay?

They should stay out until after the 2020 elections (just to be safe from the virus).

Rat message to America that they want us all locked down past May 1.

They’d prefer not to open before Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The House should be required to stay away until every last COVID virus particle is gone and there is vaccine that makes ponies and unicorns fly out of your ass and rainbows appear in the sky. Because they are the definition of non-essential.

When Congress is away, there are no “stimulus” ripoffs getting passed to be looted by Chase and Ruth’s Chris. Fine with me.

Hoyer, D-Md., said that because the Washington, D.C., area remains a “hotspot” under stay-home orders ...

We have put men on the Moon, moved many thousands of troops around the world, and stationed scientists at the South Pole.

But Congress can't convene in an isolated region of flyover country? What a bunch of pampered pansies! Get them off their butts, or dissolve Congress! They're eating cake (and Pelosi's ice cream) on our dime while the rest of the country suffers.

This is a political ploy by Pelosi to challenge President Trump's plans to reopen the nation.

The House will cower in fear while the states begin to reopen. If I were a governor of a reopening state, I would publicly demand that my states Representatives get their butts back to Washington and start serving the people of their districts.

The longer they are out, the less money they can waste. And there is no better campaign ad against them (in my opinion) than their “inaction”
