Tuesday’s jailing of a hair salon owner in Texas for defying a coronavirus shutdown order just doesn’t cut it, U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw wrote Tuesday.
In fact, the punishment dished out to Dallas business owner Shelley Luther was another example of public officials overstepping their authority during the crisis, the congressman wrote on Twitter.
“These punishments are NOT just,” Crenshaw wrote. “They are not reasonable. Small-minded ‘leaders’ across the country have become drunk with power. This must end.”

Different states have different laws. And all animals are equal under the law but some animals are more equal than others.
I dunno about Texas, but I read that in IL the law giving executive powers can only be used for 30 days, but Pritzker is extending it on his own. And the Mayor of Chicago warned everyone on TV they will be jailed if they ignore social distancing rules - then left the press conference to get her hair done. Because “she’s a public figure and hygiene is important to her”.
Time to treat adults like adults. A quarantine like this has never been done before. You quarantine the sick. You shelter the frail. You set up a cordone sanitaire when an outbreak effects a specific part of a city or state. You don’t use the force of law to lock people in their homes. And it isn’t even proven to work. Now we find that some states banned visitors to retirement and rehab centers to protect them from the virus (good!) but only to order these centers to bring infected patients inside! So stupid. 20%-50% (depending on the city) of cases are among the very old senior living residents!
We are so horribly governed, the political right needs to make hay out of all this when we get on the other side. The left is chomping at the bit to ‘remake America’ on the back of this virus. I say the political right needs to do it because the virus has exposed a lot of idiocy in governance, heavy-handed leadership, and the lack of necessity for such bloated state and federal agencies; K-12 schools and so much more.
