Masks Don't Work: A review of science relevant to COVID-19 social policy
Research Gate ^ | April 2020 | Denis G. Rancourt, PhD

The present paper about masks illustrates the degree to which governments, the mainstream media, and institutional propagandists can decide to operate in a science vacuum or select only incomplete science that serves their interests. Such recklessness is also certainly the case with the current global lockdown of over 1 billion people, an unprecedented experiment in medical and political history.

Did I ever tell you how bad masks get in the summer heat?

But but but but... COVID!!!

EVERYONE MUST WEAR THE MASK! And the GLOVES! Even your dog, your cat, and your goldfish!

What, do you WANT EVERYONE TO DIE?!!! You heartless, selfish fool! Now go hide under your bed while we destroy everyone's lives, including yours.

Masks Don't Work: A review of science relevant to COVID-19 social policy

Doesn't that depend on what you mean by "work?"

Eliminating any chance of catching the virus? No, masks don't "work."

Reducing by 70% the possibility of catching the virus? Yes, masks "work."

While they clearly don’t work, there are advantages. With a mask, sunglasses and a baseball cap, the facial recognition software won’t pice me up. Or am I just being paranoid?

Masks don't prevent you from getting the virus. They are supposed to reduce the spread of virus coming from you.

Another PhD talking out of his ass. N95s don’t catch nano particles like a net. Filtration efficiency increases as particle size decreases due to Brownian diffusion. Once the particle is collected onto a fiber, it adheres to the filter fiber due to Van der Waals forces.

A 70% reduction? Based on?
...............
This bug is very small, most people are wearing cloth masks that won’t even stop sheetrock dust. Ask any drywaller, it takes at least an N95. I wear an N99 for grinding and welding.
...........
Any face covering will slow down a cough. Is that our goal?
...........
I see people wearing masks driving in their own cars. Do ya think that bug is going to chase us down the road?

Exactly- tests also showed some masks are 90+% effective in stopping the virus- of course that still leaves 5-10% that gets through- but it all depends too i think of amount and volume of exposure- tests done were pretty intensive- directly spraying different materials with virus- in large volumes probably- far more than folks would encounter when going shopping or visiting with others- The masks measured how many particles got through the mask to the face of the wearers-

Yeah, not sure what the study was trying to prove ultimately.

It was written almost as the very use of them (outside of mandated by edict) is an insult to the writer, and that it is virtually no different than having someone cough into your mouth from a centimeter away, which was never the point. Like why would we have sneeze guards or want people to not cough on people without covering their mouths, if barriers dont have some effect?

If a person is concerned, anything is better than nothing. It would be like arguing that walls dont work because an illegal alien can still sneak in.

see my post link above- they tested using particles even smaller than coronavirus apparently

These idiots wearing their cloth mask all day and everyday are making another health crisis.

1st. They are wearing the same mask all day and constantly adjusting it, many times after handling something someone else touched with glove hands, which was in turn touched by others with gloved hands(more on gloves later)

The moisture from your breath is causing a vapor barrier in the mask which quickly leads to C02 sequestration making it more difficult to breathe.

Many people, including myself, are only using the damn thing for maybe 10 minutes at most before it become intolerable and then it’s off the face completely, only to be put on again for the next belly button -belly button engagement with another supposed human being.

2nd They are not changing these masks at anytime during a shift and most 95% of wearers do not wash them at the end of shift.

Which means all that huffing, puffing, chokin, sneezin, wheezin and all the other germs they rubbed all over the mask the day before, are going to be layered with the germs on both sides of the mask as the next day goes on.

This will follow for the next day, and they next day and so on.

Essentially, it’s like wearing your underwear or diaper 2, 3, 4, 5 or more days in a row!!!

And the gloved hands just keep accumulating and piling more crap on the mask as time goes on.

Stop the Madness!

A 70% reduction? Based on?

Based on the research of that Japanese scientist that actually conducted an experiment to measure the filtration capabilities of various masks. The 70% number came from cloth masks. Masks made out of paper actually achieved an 85% filtration level.

I've posted the link for it several times in the last few weeks, but perhaps you missed it. Last time I went looking for it, I had a hard time finding it, but I imagine the link is still out there.

Masks don't prevent you from getting the virus.

They greatly reduce the probabilities of the person wearing a mask catching it. They reduce even more the chance that someone who has it while wearing a mask, will give it to someone else.

No, but smart people ( wearing masks) don’t touch the mask more than they need to. A short trip to or from a store = why bother messing with the mask midway. If you follow good procedures put it on clean at home with uninflected hands. Take it off when you get back and decontaminate properly. Some people just want to poke holes in other peoples business.

They reduce chances and the a-hole stink stare. I do see so many who can’t stop scratching around masks and have no idea how to properly remove masks and gloves. If anything, the gloves are generally pointless unless you are in a high risk situation. The clerks at stores keep them on all day and defeat the purpose with false security and potentially infected glove and I see many running around with masks around the neck or on top of head.

Next time I have surgery I will tell the surgeon and all the attending nurses “Hey don’t bother wearing masks during my surgery. Masks don’t work!”

The WHO reports 5 percent effectiveness based on the iway nearly everyone (except professionals) improperly selects, applies/fit, wears and/or maintains their "mask". Considering that hardly anyone wears fitted goggles (a virus can enter the body through the eyes, of course) the use of PPE in this fashion is essentially useless in stopping transmission or aquisition of the virus.

This concise explanation does not, of course, take into account the dehumanizing effects that covering your face -- your very identity -- in public has or that mask-wearing serves as an incessant reminder of the fiction that we're all just one breath or one cough away from certain death from the Chinese virus. And mask-wearing does broadcast that the wearer is being "socially responsible" and that they are "doing something to fight the virus".

But mask-wearers are in fact, being "socially responsible" in a way they don't even realize. By selecting, applying/fitting, wearing and/or maintaining their mask improperly and being assymptomatic (if you're sick stay home whether you wear a mask or not) they are, albeit unwittingly, contributing to the development of widespread immunity ("herd" immunity) by infecting others.

I expect that as the temperature rises into the 80s and 90s throughout much of the country (and as facial tan lines become prominent), this mask-wearing fad will lose its appeal ... and will lose it quickly. Cheers!
