Gov. Wolf announces most of Western Pa. moving to yellow phase May 15

Allegheny and Westmoreland counties are among the counties Gov. Tom Wolf announced can begin the first phase of a gradual reopening and easing of coronavirus-related restrictions next week.

A majority of the Southwest and South-Central regions will get the go-ahead to proceed to the yellow phase of the tiered reopening plan on May 15. That includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Bedford, Blair, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Fulton, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland counties, the governor said.

The governor made the announcement today at a 2 p.m. virtual news conference.

So Allegheny County, home to Pittsburgh and the most densely populated area of SW Pennsylvania gets to go yellow next week. But Beaver County does not. As far as I can see, there are two reasons. Allegheny County votes the party line and Pittsburgh was forced to lay off the government employees who run the parking garages, a major source of revenue to the city. Beaver County was home to a major nursing home which suffered the vast majority of the county's WuFlu deaths because the governor mandated that they take them rather than use specially prepared isolation wards in the ample number of area hospitals.

Meanwhile, health care workers are being furloughed because their routine business has dried up.

Dr. Tranny stepped on the dick he/she doesn’t have by getting him/herself in between UPMC and their money.

You’d be safer dancing on the white lines of I-79.

Well, isn’t that awfully magnanimous of him. Azzhole. At least Butler county is getting some relief - my sister and her family live there, and they’re getting cabin fever.

Gov. Wolf to frustrated Pennsylvanians: what are you gonna do about it?

At this point, given the ridiculous set of hoops the Wolf/Levine administration is making counties jump through to get to the “yellow” phase, which is really just red without as much blame on the governor for businesses failing, it’s in the public interest to not get anyone in your county tested so the overall case counts stay low. That’s the perverted logic we’re facing.

Noticed that the PA health commissioner looks like the nutty Dr Okun from “ independence Day”?

That’s Allegany County, New York, which abuts PA and is fairly rural.

Allegheny County, PA (spelled differently) is where Pittsburgh is located. Pop. 1.2 million.

Health commissioner here is a “she” who used to be a “he”. Gov. Wolf appointed he/she one day after taking office as a big “F.U.” to conservative voters in this state.

I would not insult Brent Spiner, a fine actor, with that comparison.

I have on social media an elsewhere. But I’m a very minor elected official who works for the county government only two days per year; the private sector for the rest of the year.

My mistake.
The point being many of the counties in that region are low population.
Even Lycoming Co. where Williamsport resides is only 113,299 (2019).
The whole county is still 9 times less densely populated than P-burgh.

Basically true. Wags here were referring to Phase Yellow as Phase Camo cause that’s basically what they’re wearing in those counties.

Occam’s Razor: If he p*sses off the Yinzers too much they’re likely to break heavily for Trump in November.

Yeah, my brother-in-law works in IT and worked from home part of the time. He went out on short-term for surgery, and when he got cleared to come back, the bug had hit and his company laid off a bunch of people, him included, so he filed for unemployment. They had no work for him because of the trickle down effect - clients were closing up. Thank God my sister draws a healthy salary as well and can work 100% remotely.
