As long as the rest of the state is sneaking back into the open stage, hope northern virginia stays shut down for at least a year... You get what you vote for... Live with it...

If you are a federal employee paid while you stay home, why would you EVER want to go back to the commute grind?

If lots of federal jobs can be done on the computer from home, American taxpayers don’t need to pay for large office building leases in DC. We could save millions (maybe billions).

“According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus map, the 5 counties with the highest case load and deaths are:
Fairfax County, Prince William County, Arlington County and
Loudoun County.”

As a standalone report, 378 deaths in the listed jurisdictions are tragic. But the reported deaths are attributed to what; flu, accidents or crime? What were total reported deaths attributed to for the same period of 2019?

We live in Northern Virginia and my family owns and operates five small low-margin businesses here and in DC. All of them are shut down. 100 employees. We did raise money to get through at least one pay period through a GoFundMe campaign and PPP will get us through mid-June ... but the expectation is that we will not be allowed to *fully* reopen until 2021, yes, 2021, given the types of businesses we run. So my adult sons and family are scrambling to come up with creative ways to get some revenue to not go under, and thankfully for now landlords have been patient. I am so proud of my family members for how wise and resourceful they have been. We are hopeful and pressing on, in spite of hideously bad government leadship and policies.

“ NOVA is a hot spot. It makes clinical sense to keep that area shut down as long as possible. I am not sure they can even leave the house to vote. it is a shame.”

Yes I agree. NOVA should probably stay shut down through mid-November. No leaving the house even to vote, and no mail-in voting either. If it saves one life...

If pwc still had republican leadership, it would be opening. Byt the dems took over, and we will do whatever fairfax does.

I am not sure they can even leave the house to vote. it is a shame.

They’ll be allowed to vote on the MSNBC web site. If they can’t figure out how, a ballot harvester will gladly assist them. :)

We are not a “hot spot” per se. Nobody seems to want to tell us where those “hotspots” are. Why not?

Gee, we are near Dulles and Reagan Airports, plus military airports/bases, have Amtrak as a coastal railway system plus internal lines and shortline systems (VRE/MARC,etc).

Plus we have tons of international travelers who live in No. Va. Duh!! Diplomats - DUH! Military personnel - DUH! International businessmen - Double Duh!! Red Chinese diplomats and embassy/consulates staff - Wu Hu Duh!

Chinese students up the Yangtze River - Duh!

Another curse - international and hometown journalists!!!

Yet people in No. Va. were out Sunday, shopping, walking, and being careful about “social distancing”, wearing masks where logical, and doing a lot of “carry out” eating (we did - Chinese food too, sans bats).

Common sense goes a long way to keeping us safe and healthy. Couldn’t telemed conference last week so I’m going in to see my gastroenterologist about a long postponed colonoscopy (due to cancer last year and a long recovery).

Nobody is going to kiss me, shake my hand, or do any probing right now. Just a talk about if and when to schedule the procedure, and we will be wearing masks like the Lone Ranger and Zorro (except they will be on our mouths/noses, not eyes, and definitely NOT upside down like Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Ca) showed us).

Again, common sense and some politicians telling us the truth about where the problem spots are, will go a long way to easing fears and getting our cities/towns open again so that people can work, get paid, and eat.

Headline should substitute “Washington D.C. and its Suburbs” for “Northern Va.”

The Federal workers in the DC region are working two hours per day from home......at best. They are having a great time on vacation and getting paid. Of course they could care less when the economy reopens for the serfs who pay the taxes.

While those counties are plausible hot spots because of the vast importation of illegals, international travel and sanctuary policies, the Virginia Director of Health has admitted to counting each positive COVID-19 test of the same patient on subsequent days as a new positive. To me, that is cooking the books and those who want to justify continued shutdowns are bound to be doing the same thing wherever they can to justify more economic repression.

"I was in Arlington Monday. I saw more than one business with signs saying they would reopen on the 15th."

Unless there is mass civil disobedience, they won't be opening. Northam has just extend his virtually total close down order for Northern Virginia through the 28th of May, ostensibly at the request of the NVA jurisdictions. They are cooking the books to make the COVID-19 numbers as bad as possible.
