Northern Va. nowhere near ready to reopen under Northam plan, officials say

Northern Virginia, the state’s economic engine, is nowhere near ready to reopen Friday when Gov. Ralph Northam plans to begin lifting shutdown restrictions, the region’s top elected officials said Sunday, citing the continuing increase in coronavirus infections and hospitalizations.

In a joint letter, the elected leaders in Northern Virginia’s five largest jurisdictions — representing nearly 2.4 million residents — told Northam (D) they are unwilling to lift restrictions in place since late March, which the governor plans to do in a limited capacity Friday in hopes of reviving the state’s ailing economy.

Northam announced last week that he will begin a “phase one” reopening in areas of the state that have showed declining trends in infection rates and hospitalizations over a 14-day period, adding that “hot zones’ such as Northern Virginia may take longer to ease restrictions.

Employment in these NoVa environs is predominately government and subidiaries. Still there are a heckuva lot of nongovernmental workers who are anxious to get back to work. The governor comes around and now local leaders are reluctant?! What’s going on?

NOVA is a hot spot. It makes clinical sense to keep that area shut down as long as possible. I am not sure they can even leave the house to vote. it is a shame.

I was in Arlington Monday. I saw more than one business with signs saying they would reopen on the 15th.

What’s going on? You answered your own question.

“ Employment in these NoVa environs is predominately government and subidiaries.”

The producers around here are vastly outnumbered by the consumers of national wealth who are in no hurry to get back to work, work that is becoming increasingly obvious not to be all that essential.

Mrs. VanShuyten has been told that June Someteenth is the target date for all to go back to the office. A third of the year off, paid, for these government workers, and the country seems to be getting along OK. The Dims are hoping no one notices.

Fine. Then let them stay closed and open up the rest of the state.

ASAP.

Northern Virginia”leaders” are all democrats.

They want to keep everything shut down to hurt Trump.

They are all sucking off the government treat and are getting paychecks while the real people are suffering.

My hairdresser contacted me last week and wanted to schedule an appointment the week after next.

I am going no matter what.

Lots of federal “workers” have jobs that are actually done by contractors. That is a fact.

The WHO came out about a week or so ago and said Sweden did this right.

We were told we were to listen to the WHO. The fact the rats no longer listening means this just political.

We can’t wait for a vaccine. It may never happen. We have to go for herd.

The best group to do it first is the millennials but it seems social media has made them the totally freaked out and a lot of them can work from home.

Cut the government salaries and that attitude would change suddenly. The Dems imported vast numbers of illegals into Northern Virginia, have abolished ID requirements to vote and even blockaded the parks to keep people from getting outside. They have total control over the levers of power and do not intend to let go.

NVA is mostly government employees. Their paychecks are sacrosanct. They get paid whether they work or stay home for the lockdown. Of course they want it to continue. To such the state of the economy is of no concern. Let it all crash, they still get paid.

According to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus map, the 5 counties with the highest case load and deaths are:
Fairfax County (DC suburbs)
5,892 cases
239 deaths

Prince William County (DC suburbs)
2,740 cases
48 deaths
-
Arlington County. (DC suburbs)
1,368 cases
61 deaths
-
Loudoun County. (DC suburbs)
1,159 cases
30 deaths
-
Henrico County (central Virginia around Richmond)
1,067 cases
109 deaths (50 of them from one particular retirement facility)
-
Chesterfield County (central Virginia around Richmond)
787 cases
26 deaths

According to my calculations, 46% of the confirmed cases are in the Washington, DC metropolitan area as well and 45% of the deaths. The western part of the state, being more rural, doesn’t have many cases.
