Red States Can't Let Blue Ones Go Down Without Sinking Themselves.

Republicans may not want to bail out blue states, but they can’t afford to let them go under. Nicole Gelinas Published May. 16, 2020 5:35AM ET

A long-simmering uneasiness between densely populated Democratic states and more sprawling Republican states has turned into open contempt, with national Republicans refusing more aid for cash-strapped states, and local and state Democrats seeing anything less than 100 percent funding as a betrayal.

As New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Illinois, in particular, struggle with the economic consequences of locking down their states to contain COVID-19, some national Republicans are pointing to them as parables of Democratic profligacy with President Trump saying that “all the states that need help, they’re run by Democrats” and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell suggesting at one point that they go bankrupt.

That is key: Governors are in charge along with their states legislature.

Some states manage their funds well and some don’t. It’s nothing new, but with the pandemic, it is becoming much more pronounced.

The Republic of Texas is always ready to go it alone. So to the Libs, the party’s over, clean up your house!

Texas has get up and going.

We have two big issues to deal with. One is the pandemic and the other is the low price of oil.

A severe drop in the price of oil causes a depression of sorts all on it’s own.

Blue states sink because they are blue

Being blue is an indicator of incompetent governance and generally piss poor population

I live in a very huge red part of a blue state, Oregon. About the only blue area is Portland, Salem & Eugene. Small area, but heaviest population. They control the vote of the entire state, which sucks. And we do vote red in the red part, yes we do! The blue part does not like us much. Oh well.........

Let our state go down if that’s what it takes to bring Oregon back to it’s original state, but blue states should NOT be bailed out.

Expect more of the mantra from Democrats that their incompetence is everybody’s problem. The creation of sanctuary cities and states, defying federal law, is the perfect justification for denying them a bailout.

Trump added, “You look at Illinois, you look at New York, look at California, you know, those three, there’s tremendous debt there, and many others.

“I don’t think the Republicans want to be in a position where they bail out states that are, that have been mismanaged over a long period of time.”

Billions of dollars in federal aid have been shelled out to states for dealing with the pandemic, but the federal government — Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell included — is opposed to helping states pay for normal expenses and entitlement programs.

Blue State financial problems are self inflicted wounds. I remember the days when NY had a surplus. That’s when the politicians decided they could “do more” and did. We have been broke ever since.

New York as an example; the city should remain under lockdown until either the Mayor closes the subway system entirely to flatten the curve, or the Mayor feels the subway system is safe enough that he starts riding the subway every day.

If the subway system closes forever, New York needs a new normal because the transportation process would have to change entirely.

Let them go down financially. More proof that socialism is a failed plan.

Why aren't the people in Texas DEMANDING an oil import tariff? You should be screaming for one.

Agree completely. But when there is no other federal bailout and their paychecks and retirement checks stop coming in, I suspect the constitutions will get changed.

16 May: American Thnker: The Coronavirus Fifth Column
by Eileen F. Toplansky
As left-wing Democrat-controlled states continue to keep people in lockdown, it is becoming apparent that they are using the pandemic as a means to gain ultimate control of people’s lives...
At the Jacobin, an American socialist, Marxist quarterly based in New York, Ben Burgis emphasizes that
“Progressives and democratic socialists need to make the case that there’s a third alternative to business-as-usual centrists running the states Trump wants to ‘liberate’ and the cynical demagogues who want to feed low-income workers to the capitalist death machine by prematurely ending the lockouts.”...

The Washington Post reported the group Pacronym is planning to spend $5 million on ads attacking Trump’s response to the pandemic. Pacronym, whose board of directors includes former Barack Obama campaign manager David Plouffe, said its ads will target key 2020 swing states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Arizona.
Money is distributed to progressive causes by a number of Democratic PACs, e.g., Sixteen Thirty Fund. In fact, “in 2018, Politico reported that the Sixteen Thirty Fund ‘funneled millions of dollars to progressive causes’ by setting up a secret-money network of other groups, which were the ‘most prolific political advertisers of 2018’ when combined.”...

Freedom-loving Americans need to understand the existence of this fifth column and then assiduously fight the penetration of enemies to the state.
