So where are the Chinese going to source this stuff? The US?

Trump and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison should form a strategic partnership focused on destroying China’s economy.

The latest difficulties in the bi-lateral trade relationship followed the Australian government's call for a ban on wildlife wet markets and an inquiry into how the coronavirus originated and spread from Wuhan. The proposal - as well as repeated suggestions that China covered up the spread of the disease - have infuriated Beijing.

Think of China as being a Mexican drug cartel and their choices start making more sense....

Yup. I just sent this note to President Trump:

Dear Mr. President,

Based on what Americans are seeing, Australia is the country most closely aligned with America.

The Chinese are determined to retaliate economically against Australia for forcing Covid inquiries.

Why not form a strategic partnership with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison focused on destroying China’s economy?

We should be Further strengthening our ties with Australia and Great Britain.

Respectfully,

Mark Davis

Previously they called Australia “chewing gum stuck on the sole of China’s shoes”:

>Late on Monday, Hu Xijin, the editor of the state-run Global Times wrote on Weibo that ties between Australia and its largest trading partner, China, were likely to deteriorate as much as relations between Beijing and Washington had.
>Criticising Australia for joining the US in its attacks on China, Hu wrote: “After the epidemic, we need to have more risk awareness when doing business with Australia and also when we send our children to study there.”
>“Australia is always there, making trouble. It is a bit like chewing gum stuck on the sole of China’s shoes. Sometimes you have to find a stone to rub it off,” Hu said.

This reads as if the Chinese stopped just short of saying Australia is America’s “b*tch”, or something equally as insulting.

When China makes a comment like that, do they have any idea
what an idiotic 1950s back-water national wanna-be they
sound like?

Tariffs on food exports simply reduces cost of domestically sold food. It is de inflationary. It doesn’t cost any jobs.
Since all westerners consider themselves “nation of consumers” what’s not to like?

Embargo all Chinese imports. Short term pain for long term prosperity for the west.

“We don’t need a single damn thing they offer in return.”

The only potential problem I can see involves...

Light REEs (lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium and scandium)
are produced in global abundance and are in surplus supply.

Heavy REEs (terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium, thulium, ytterbium, lutetium and yttrium)
are produced mainly in China and are in limited supply.

Coming from a nation of bat eaters, this is a high compliment IMO.

Just as an FYI, I have not ordered General Tso since the Kung Flu started even though delivery has been an option.

Per ABC: In 2017-18 Australia exported $123.3 billion in goods and services to China, equal to about 6.7 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

I bet Trump could help you find other markets for that. :-)

China is acting like a cornered wounded animal...lashing out blindly at everything and everybody.

China relies on food imports since they can't grow enough on their own currently. Not sure picking a fight with food sources is the way to go. At some point China will need to expand their territory to be able to survive.

Look, when you are responsible for feeding over a billion people as the rulers of China are, you cannot afford to terminate any potential source of food supply for very long. China needs the rest of the world a hell of a lot more than the rest of the world needs China.
