There was a extended promotional Parker/Stone interview piece when Team America came out.
They said that Baldwin called them and wanted to voice his puppet character.
P/S said they had a hard time getting through to Baldwin that “his” role was an object of mockery, and he really didn’t want to be personally associated with that characterization.

America has always been so great that even after eight years of Obama's malicious destruction we were still the greatest country in the world. If Alec Baldwin (Film Actor's Guild) doesn't like that, he should probably leave - perhaps to Iran, North Korea, or some similar country with leaders who match his values.
