Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine offer no clinical benefit for people with COVID-19 and might cause serious heart-related side effects, according to a study published Friday in The Lancet.
People with severe illness caused by the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, treated with either drug -- either alone or with an antiviral medication -- were up to twice as likely to die than those in the control group, which received standard, supportive care, the researchers found.
Those who died did so either as a result of COVID-19 or from side effects from treatment, the authors said.
"This is the first large-scale study to find statistically robust evidence that treatment with chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine does not benefit patients with COVID-19," co-author Dr. Mandeep R. Mehra, executive director of the Brigham and Women's Hospital Center for Advanced Heart Disease in Boston noted in a press release.
"Our findings suggest [these drugs] may be associated with an increased risk of serious heart problems and increased risk of death," she said.
Both drugs, used to treat malaria, have been touted by President Donald Trump and others, including billionaire Elon Musk, as a potential treatment for COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, or to prevent infection. Their praise has come despite a lack of scientific evidence.

I wish that they would make clear in articles like this whether the control group was as ill as the subject group. And that they wouldn’t limit their subject group to those that are already on death’s door.
In this article, a link to another one with findings that seems to contradict it.
In other words wait until there is no hope and then try to save them with a drug that could have cured them if used a day or two earlier.
Its not BS.
The words were chosen VERY carefully: Our findings suggest [these drugs] may be associated with an increased risk of serious heart problems and increased risk of death,” she said.
MAY BE. Yes, QTc prolongation is a WELL KNOWN s/e of these drugs, especially when two are used together. IF not managed properly, it is POSSIBLE that a rhythm disturbance can occur which IN RARE CASES can lead to death.
Whats dishonest is the IMPLICATION that under grave danger of death from a disease which these drugs might possibly treat, they should be withheld because of what MIGHT happen.
A does not follow from B in this case.
They gave people fish tank cleaner??? And they didn't get better?
hydroxychloroquine alone, chloroquine and a macrolide antiviral drug or hydroxychloroquine with a macrolide antiviral drug.
What was that macrolide antiviral drug? How do they know that didn't cause the deaths?
Patients from each of these four groups -- more than 15,000 in all -- then were compared with the remaining control group of 81,144 patients.
No mention of the use of zinc or that other Z-pack thing but right below that paragraph was this link:
RELATED Zinc might boost effectiveness of malaria drug against COVID-19, experts say
1. If it was true, the finding would be kept quiet until after Trump is no longer on the drug. *They* wouldn’t be giving him a heads-up...
2. If it was true, the Dems have shown that they are in the business of killing American citizens, so again, anything that hurts American citizens would be covered up.
Just spreading pharmas story

As in Roundup may be a cause of cancer or 3m ear lpugs may be a cause of tintinitus.
The shooting of a tort lawyer on the court house steps may be a public service
The virus is spread through the computer!
Get back under your bed.
This is what happens when you only give it to those in the last stages... to discredit the drug.
I would bet most users of HCQ got it the day they died.
A Lancet study from 2003.
“Effects of Chloroquine on Viral Infections: An Old Drug Against Today’s Diseases?”
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14592603/
“Chloroquine is a 9-aminoquinoline known since 1934. Apart from its well-known antimalarial effects, the drug has interesting biochemical properties that might be applied against some viral infections. Chloroquine exerts direct antiviral effects, inhibiting pH-dependent steps of the replication of several viruses including members of the flaviviruses, retroviruses, and coronaviruses.......”
In all the flurry of posts I’d pretty much guess this has been linked before.
Wow, that sounds like it suggests that it may possibly be a potentially solid finding. Science!
There are plenty of drugs that are helpful in one situation and harmful in another. This is why we do the studies
"Chloroquine/hydroxychloroquie has a well-studied toxicity profile. The half-century-long use of this drug in the therapy of malaria demonstrates the safety of acute administration of chloroquine to human beings. The use of chloroquine/hydroxychloroquine in rheumatic diseases and for antimalarial prophylaxis showed a low incidence of adverse events during chronic administration of this drug for periods of up to a few years. In these cases, the most serious toxic effect is a macular retinopathy, which depends on the cumulative dose rather than on the daily dose, and permanent damage may be prevented with regular visual monitoring during treatment. A recent study provided encouraging results on the safety of a high dosage of the drug (up to 500 mg of chloroquine base per day) even during pregnancy."
But now it's dangerous poison that needs to be studied to determine just how deadly it is.
There are plenty of drugs helpful in one situation and harmful in another. The more critically ill covid patients frequently develop a cardiomyopathy that predisposes to malignant arrhythmias. anything that adds to the chance of arrhythmia will make it worse. PleSe leave the medicine to those who know what they are doing
I think what it’s saying is not that the placebo works, but that this therapy is literally worse than doing nothing, at least in this category of patient.
But why was such a crappy retrospective “study” even conducted???
That’s why I say it’s BS.
Yet, we haven’t heard such horror stories of it’s use for all these decades. Just since Trump mentioned it. Smells of TDS.
