...that is going to do NOTHING to help the thousands of salon, restaurant and gym owners on Main Street whose livelihoods have effectively been ruined.

Respectfully, I will counter with this. Two weeks ago, we were in Orange Beach, AL for a week. You could rent condos there, and it was the first week of restaurants opening up. Not full, but a respectable amount of business. To a person, the folks there said they were GLAD to be back to work.

I made a point of handing out $50 bills for tips. Certainly not enough to make a waiter/waitress whole after a two months layoff, but it was something I could do. I suspect LOTS of folks are doing the same thing all over the country.

In two weeks, we're going to Gatlinburg, and I'll take another pocketful of $50s and do the same thing there. I can't think of a thing I'd rather spend it on. I know many restaurants won't ever reopen, but I'm gonna do what I can to help out.

that is spot on in a “normal” election...and I certainly hope you’re right, and you might well be (hopefully)

but I just get the feeling we are entering a time of social upheaval that none of us have ever really experienced and part of that social upheaval will be elections not being like any we have ever experienced

of course....I’m basing my feelings about the rest of this year based upon March/April/May

Maybe the nightmare will fade and we will return to something more normal

I sure hope so :)

Very glad to hear that report.

I sit here in a blue state with an idiot for a Governor and his tranny health secretary, so I am seeing nothing of the sort.

My in-laws used to live in Alabama. Beautiful state!
Highly underrated.

We have been tipping generously as well (although not as generous as you!) in an effort to show respect for real working folks who are hurt the most by the lock down.

The market levels are based on future expectations.

Mr. Trump has a record of cutting regulations and getting govt. out of the way of businesses.

The dims are putting up (for now) an old tired politician who has no idea about basic economics.

And currently, the Vegas bookies are betting on Mr. Trump.

I tell you, sitting on our condo balcony watching the little kids play in the sand and surf was just what me & mrs. abb needed. Their squealing and laughing was just about the most beautiful sound I had heard in a long time.

You’re neglecting one major factor:

“Electors”

I rate his odds right now at <50% and it’s his own fault for not firing/replacing Fauci/Birx.

There it is.

Against Biden, Trump will stomp him like a nark at a biker rally,
I don’t see any other possibility - nor, I submit, could the DNC possibly think otherwise.
but I don’t think the demsocraps intend to run Pedo Joe. Hitlery is gearing up for the run. I fully expect her to come on stage at the August demo convention and take the nomination.
That’s not exactly an odd prediction - but Karl Rove has a point that changing horses - esp to Hillary - isn’t exactly an easy maneuver to conduct and come out on the other side with an effective Democrat Party. What about Sanders? Does he lie down again?

Hillary was part of the Obama Administration too - and there’s gonna be a lot of stuff coming to light about that “pure as the wind driven snow” administration. I still wonder what all was going on sub rosa in the Obama WH in 2012 . . .

But ironically the Democrats’ fundamental weakness is the economy. “Blue” governors have been crucifying their own economies, “red” governors - aside from Kachich - haven’t, at least not intentionally. So altho the market is down from its peak, nobody has any reason to believe that any Democrat could do as well as Trump, let alone better.

Time will show how the economy recovers, and what the virus does, in October.

We experienced this when both Bush's ran for re election. We barely won one and lost one.

yah, that’s definitely a tumultuous time for sure!

I fear, however, that we are approaching something more like Lincoln in 1860 and 1864.....a complete overturning of all that was before into something unrecognizable.

I cannot see Americans being content with being RUINED.

We, hate to sound juvenile. are better than that.

Those who have been successful in the past, will definitely want to succeed again. It’s in the blood.

If all around them are happily producing, they will certainly risk again.

I think any and all Obama crimes will not reflect against Hitlery because Barr won’t prosecute.

For her to win she has to come out swinging hard and the dems have to accept her with enthusiasm. Any luckwarm reception means Trump stomps her too as he would with Biden. If she comes out to thunderous applause and full media cheerleading, she has a chance.

It will come down to two things: election theft, particularly via all the ballots mailed out, and disinformation via Google search and social media platforms.

If Team Trump doesn’t really get a handle on those, he loses. Otherwise, he wins.

The disconnect between Wall Street and Main Street is YUGE, and getting bigger all the time. The gap has been widening for a couple of decades at least. Wall Street is no longer a good indicator of what people are thinking in general.

Agreed. The New York Stock Exchange doesn't vote. Forty million unemployed people do. It will be Trump's recovery plan and how well people believe that over whatever crap Biden throws out that will determine the election

Also limited options for where to park the money being pumped. Borderline negative interest rates, real questions re: commercial real estate, looking for something that will ride with potential inflation.

The new totalitarianism is killing off main street businesses, leaving the behemoths on the exchanges to make a killing.
