I believe in certain Stand Your Ground laws, a business owner can defend their store.
If a looter breaks into your store and you tell them to get out, and they charge you causing you to be in fear of your life you might have the right to shoot.
A former Marine (yes, there are no former Marines, hah) friend was Reservist during Liberty City riots Miami, FL 1980. USMC unit was on top of an armory (weapons inside) somewhere near the outskirts, and the rioters (dis organized as they were) were marching down toward the building. USMC put a Ma Deuce (50 cal tripod mount) surrounded by sandbags on the roof- Commander gave orders not to load the weapon but make a frequent display of the loaders draped with the ammo belts moving back and forth from out of sight to the weapon— and, to train the weapon back and forth, periodically making the appearance of charging the weapon. They ran like hell the other way, fairly soon— no warning fire needed.
This was under Demonrat Governor Bob Graham— what a jerk. And then he became Senate Intel committee chairman whose actions on 9-11 included breakfast with one of the Saudi helpers of the attackers who was confirmed in phone contact with Mohamed Atta. One more example of demonrat morons.

Excellent commentary from a year ago about Kurt Schlichters time in the California National Guard during the Rodney King riots. Very much worth reading given current events.
