How to Flip a Narrative In One Productive Day
Townhall.com ^ | June 2, 2020 | Mark Davis

Posted on 06/02/2020 4:31:05 AM PDT by Kaslin

The weekend was filled with questions about our usually assertive president. “Where is Trump?” many asked. “Why no national address?” others wondered.

For his part, the president had made clear in previous days, both in person and via social media, his multi-layered sentiments about the death of George Floyd, the protests that followed and the rioting that opportunistically attached itself to those protests. The bottom line: condolences for the Floyd family, an assurance that justice will be done, and a warning not to allow rioting to insult his memory and poison the atmosphere for a national conversation.

The rioters were uncooperative, leading to weekend fires and showers of broken glass strewn across many cities. Also scattering widely were taunts aimed at the president, mocking him for remaining inside the White House, denying critics the chance to attack any words he might choose to speak. As the weekend wound down, even supporters wondered what the president was waiting for.

Turns out he was waiting for Monday.

“Most of you are weak,” he told governors on a conference call, according to quotes from a source listening in. “You have to dominate. If you don't dominate, you're wasting your time. They're going to run over you. You're going to look like a bunch of jerks. You have to dominate.”

“You’ve got to arrest people,” he continued. “You have to track people; you have to put them in jail for 10 years and you’ll never see this stuff again.” Then a cryptic wrap-up: “We’re doing it in Washington, D.C. We’re going to do something that people haven’t seen before.”

Little did we know.

As the hour neared for planned remarks in the Rose Garden, park rangers cleared the area from the White House across Lafayette Park to the boarded-up St. John’s Church, set ablaze the night before by rioters. No one knew at the time that the path was being secured for a presidential walk likely to be long remembered.

After his speech containing a commitment to mobilizing federal troops to maintain order, Trump strode through the park to stand for about 30 seconds in front of the church, a Bible in his hand. “We have the greatest country in the world,” he told the gathered gaggle of reporters, “And we’re going to keep it safe.” Then he walked away, leaving his opponents barely a moment to catch their collective breath to plot how to denigrate and mock the moment.

Many focused on the Bible, as if he had used it as some sinister prop. Hyperventilating anchors and guests filled cable TV with daunting images of a looming dictatorship. But his message was as simple as it was resonant: This is God’s house. We will not see worship cave to terror. We will not allow violence to poison the American discourse.

At that moment, there were two communities Americans could join: the one agreeing with that sentiment, or the one opting for the coddling of riots and the embrace of measures insufficient to stop them.

On the third of November, memories should still be fresh of who was in which group.

Buffalo New York was hugs and kisses, let Antifa loot destroy property.
Then, antifa hit the City Hall.
City Hall was the Marxist Mayors red line.

In DC, the burning of that Church was the turning point for ?President Trump

a commitment to mobilizing federal troops to maintain order

I don't want this to sound negative, but I'm not sure I understand the expectation. As a general rule, I expect soldiers to carry guns and use guns when needed. Will soldiers be allowed to shoot rioters? If not, then how will they maintain order? I'm trying to picture exactly how this plays out and how we get order restored but avoid Kent State.

The same thing is going on now that we saw during the Kent State fiasco.

Protesters, especially brought in, are intentionally spoiling for a confrontation. It puts the authorities on a razor edge between their duty under oath to the community and their instinct for self-preservation.

Police are hired, trained, equipped, paid (including their benefits), deployed at a tremendous expense to the very taxpayers and business owners who are now being targeted.

The MSM knows it. Do you think a single ‘journalist’ worth the name would have the common sense to also know and express what every citizen and public official already knows?

MSM will spin it as the gov’t. indiscriminately going after peaceful citizens, when in fact, the protesters are breaking the law. Each and every ‘protester’ can be should be apprehended and charged for several local and federal violations. There are many established laws on the books intended and expressly written to protect peaceful citizens from JUST such lawlessness.

Why does the MSM pretend this discord and destruction are defensible?

This was a perfect moment for the President. His speech was heartfelt, emotional, and powerful. He honored Mr. Floyd (as he’s been doing all along), and he also came down firmly on the side of America. The quick walk to the church was amazing. I don’t care what anybody says, we have President Trump “for such a time as this”.

President Trump was in Florida on Saturday for the launch of SpaceX. Any media outlet that was interested in “uniting the country” could have given the launch widespread coverage. It was the first launch of Americans in an American spaceship from American soil since 2011. Since it was scrubbed for weather on Wednesday, the media had three extra days to cover it.

.American children locked out of their schools could have been inspired. Instead most probably did not even know it happened.

PDJT gave his finest speech ever after the launch, half of which was about the current National situation.

The leftist media prefers riots rather than have the nation know about the launch which might make President Trump look good. At least one “journalist” in the White House Press Corps indicated complete unawareness of the President’s speech in Cape Canaveral. The media probably gave more coverage to the phony ... hiding in the bunker.... story than to his trip to Cape Canaveral or his speech.

President Trump has no interest in mobilizing Federal troops to maintain order in states around the country. Politically, there is no upside to having the U.S. military using tear gas, batons and armored vehicles against U.S. citizens.

He shrewdly claimed that he WOULD do it for one purpose: to make Democrats come out and publicly oppose it.

We are already seeing the result of this masterful approach. There are governors and state AGs clamoring to legally challenge the President to stop him from doing something he doesn't want to do anyway.
