“We were chased by the police,” Pelosi said. “It was a question of who could run faster because they were after us with clubs and whatever else.

“They took some of the press film or whatever–film, I mean it's 31 years ago–away from them,” she said.

Seems like a nice FOIA request for transportation records from congress would clearly establish where she was at the time. Though probably quicker would be just searching SFGate’s archive, as I’ve no doubt if she was chased by Chinese police in 1991, she would have recounted the harrowing affair to the local paper upon her return.

(1) did not have an escort/minders which allowed them to be chased by police with clubs;
(2) had the actual courage to unfurl said banner in Tiananmen Square.
