It's Trump's Revolution (Barf)
New York Times ^ | 6/13/20 | Ross Douthat

Posted on 06/13/2020 8:40:20 PM PDT by madprof98

Before Donald Trump’s election I made a lot of dire predictions about how his mix of demagogy and incompetence would interact with real world threats: I envisioned economic turmoil, foreign policy crises, sustained domestic unrest. . . .

In 2017, 2018, 2019, those predictions didn’t come to pass. Trump was bad in many ways, but the consequences weren’t what I anticipated. The economy surged; the world was relatively stable; the country was mad online but otherwise relatively calm. And as the Democrats shifted leftward and Trump delivered on his promised judicial appointments, many conservatives who had shared my apprehensions would tell me that, simply as a shield against the left, the president was doing enough to merit their support in 2020.

To which I often murmured something like, “let’s hope it lasts.”

It hasn’t. Now we are in the retreat-from-Moscow phase of the Trump presidency, with crises arriving all together — pandemic, recession, mass protests — and the president incapable of coping. If the election were held today, the result could easily resemble 2008, the closest thing to a landslide our divided system has recently produced. In this environment, few conservatives outside the MAGA core would declare Trump’s presidency a ringing success. But many will stand by him out of a sense of self-protection, hoping a miracle keeps him in the White House as a firewall against whatever post-2020 liberalism might become.

This is a natural impulse, but they should consider another possibility: That so long as he remains in office, Trump will be an accelerant of the right’s erasure, an agent of its marginalization and defeat, no matter how many of his appointees occupy the federal bench.

The idiocy of the self proclaimed GOPe is staggering. They live in the same bubble as the media and they have no frigging clue about the real world

(and still stuck on Russia, while ignoring the commie threat in China).

How did Trump cause this?

Did he hold down George Floyd in a Democrat controlled city of a Democrat controlled state?

Or are the Democrats appropriating black anger for their political causes as they always have?

Why do these idiots get away with calling themselves conservatives? These CONservatives are always defeatists. Is it any wonder the Republican electorate tells them all to f**k off? They’re always living in fear of the left instead of taking the fight to them. Donald Trump is the only one keeping the GOP on life support, and the only one who is trying to forward the conservative agenda despite every obstacle thrown at him from both RATS and Repukes. Douthat and all these other NeverTrumpers and neoCONS do nothing but rollover like dead dogs the minute the left goes on the attack.

Not many know what Conservatism is and just label themselves as such. Liberalism is also hijacked. Our country once had balance as designed and even survived a civil war but now the country is rotting by both ends of the political equation. It is staggering to see the hatred for one man in Trump and not a care for a evil man in Soros and propping up a senile corruptocrat in Biden.

None of the calamities that have befallen us are Trump’s fault. The whole thing is a giant communist conspiracy to bring down America. 2020 is the perfect year for the Tet Offensive.

Russia was a big lie. Impeachment was a big lie. The pandemic is a ChiCom bio attack on the economy. A generation of Critical Race Theory fanned racial grievance and white guilt so that the militant Antifa/BLM, using criminals as foot soldiers, could incite riots. Policing is being battered. Whites are kneeling submissively. Traditional Americans represented by Trump have been indicted as racist enemies. All this to elect a communist government in November who will cement perpetual rule as the first order of business.

This isn’t the second Civil War we are living through. It’s the second French Revolution.

Douhat thinks that Clinton or a Romney could have headed this day off. He’s a weak fool.

What do we do when the communists take over? Resist. Irony.

Wrong again. Being wrong is a real talent with these leftist intellectuals. They never seem to disappoint in that regard.

Douthat has been a decent writer on the subject of Catholicism, recognizing the crisis that is the Bergoglian pontificate, but he’s long had a case of Trump Derangement Syndrome, not on the level of Rick Wilson/Jonah Goldberg/Bill Kristol/Max Boot/Jen Rubin, but a TDS case nonetheless. He’s employed by the NYT, was raised in CT and is a Harvard alumnus. He can’t break out of the snobbery of his class and background to recognize the reality of Trump and the current situation

After Trump is elected this utter dope makes a stupid mistake DEAD CERTAIN he is right. He discovers he was wrong and then goes and blithely makes it again as he AGAIN is certain he is right.

Donald Trump proved his mettle. ALL of the negatives he ascribes magically to Trump have nothing to do with anything Trump has done. Leftist are DOUBLE stupid as they can make the same mistake twice.

Very wise observations. I think a lot of political writers who call themselves conservatives do so in order to get a job. Media still tries for what they call balance but in reality they what nothing of the kind. So you get writers who put out liberal lite articles and masquerade as conservatives.
