“Lynch” as a name has certain connotations that have nothing to do with the founder of this municipality. As a verb or an adjective, “lynch” has a very negative history.

Much the same thing may be said of a person, Robert Bork. His name is forever linked with really scurrilous political moves (by Senator Ted Kennedy) to prevent Judge Bork from gaining a position on the Supreme Court, and to say a nominee to an appointive position has been most unfairly treated is to say that he (or she) was “borked”.

Such a shame this doesn’t matter to the idiot starting this petition:

Founding of Lynchburg

The Lynch Ferry across the James River was established by the family about 1745. In 1757, seventeen year old John Lynch took over control of the ferry business. Years later, first in 1784 and again in 1786, Lynch petitioned the General Assembly of Virginia for a charter to establish a town on the bluffs above the ferry upon land Lynch had inherited from an older brother. The 1786 petition was granted and the town of Lynchburg was founded.

>>>> Lynch freed his own slaves during his lifetime and consistently supported the antislavery movement. <<<<

I believe that was Bedford Virginia...A small town near Lynchburg that lost 19 NG troops on D-Day. A memorial was built in the town. Oh such sadness !!

Actually, Little Chicago would do nicely. It’s becoming a hood in its own right, sadly. Used to be beautiful, but now I have avoided visiting last 10 years on.

Hey, to be "accepted", "cool", on the "right side of justice" it's what you have to do, correct? Otherwise you're a nasty, racist, conservative, Bible-toting, bigot!

I agree!

They should also rename McDonald’s because Old MacDonald had a farm. In the south, farms were/are called “plantations”. Plantations used to be worked by SLAVES! /s

Folks, all kinds, were lynched from trees back in the day. Should we ban the word tree? Perhaps hang our heads in shame and call them the t word. Incredible stupidity on the left.

There is a suburb of Fort Worth called “White Settlement”, SJWs have been trying to change the name of it for years.

Shades of years past.

PETA and their ilk were trying to get the name Fishkill removed saying it was detrimental to the lives of fish.

FINALLY someone told the idiots there were so many things named ‘kill’ around because it was the ‘Old Dutch’ for water or stream or something along that line..

Damn We are definitely surrounded by IDIOTS!!!!

It was Bedford, VA that A Company, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Inf Div were from, NOT Lynchburg.

May I sign this counter-petition, or is it just for Virginians?

Note: no innocent Black people were harmed in the making of this post.
