Isn’t this the town that lost all their young men at Normandy?
“Isnt this the town that lost all their young men at Normandy?” Sadly, yes.
I believe that was Bedford Virginia...A small town near Lynchburg that lost 19 NG troops on D-Day. A memorial was built in the town. Oh such sadness !!
It was Bedford, VA that A Company, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Inf Div were from, NOT Lynchburg.
Lynchburg, Va lost a few but it was the nearby town/county of Bedford, Va that lost more men, per capita, than any other town/county in the country on D-Day. Nineteen men from a county of only three thousand were killed in the Normandy landing. By the end of the Normandy landings three more were killed to total 22.
Company A (Bedford Rifles)
116th Regiment (Stonewall Regiment)
29th Infantry Division. (Blue and Gray)
Excellent book about the Bedford Boys and those they left at home.
