A group of Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives urged President Donald Trump on Tuesday to reconsider his decision to cut the number of U.S. troops in Germany, saying their presence is the backbone of NATO’s deterrent against Russian aggression.

The six lawmakers led by House Foreign Affairs Committee senior Republican Michael McCaul said in a letter that the U.S. military footprint in Germany served Washington’s strategic interests beyond Europe and into the Middle East and Africa, which have seen the growing influence of Russia and China. […]

The lawmakers also warned that Moscow and Beijing sought to sow divisions between the United States and its allies, and said they were troubled to see that many U.S. allies had not been consulted on the plans to reduce U.S. troop numbers in Germany. …

His district stretches from Austin to Houston. As of 2018 he was the fifth-wealthiest member of Congress. So you know he's a RINO.

Morons.. the Russian military is 10% orb what it was in 1989. But our GOP reps are deeply concerned about Russia suddenly deciding to invade Germany... as if anyone would want to inherit that socialist/ sexually perverted/Islamic mess that is Germany today.

But our US Reps from the State of Lockheed-Martin have their needs I guess.

They are the Bush R’s still believing, like liberals America must pay for everything and despite the fact the Soviet Union fell 30 years ago and NATO has floundered around like a fish out of water since and the Europeans aside from Britain and Poland are worthless backstabbing “allys”.

This old post WWII world order foreign policy is heaving it’s last gasps of life. If we fail to adapt we will follow. I heard an academic say America first is not logical or good for it or the world. Educated fool was my response to this tripe. America first means we take care of our own first, not Germany, Japan or anywhere else. If that means we don’t be the world policeman tough. Mind your own business and charity begins at home.

Europe and the rest of the world practice this policy they just don’t publicly announce it.

”Putin does not have to fire a shot to cripple Germany. All he’d have to do is turn of the spigot. This isn’t our problem.”

And McDonalds doesn’t have to do a thing to boss me around. They just have to cut off the cheeseburgers.

Kinda an empty threat for a supplier to cut off a customer. It’s a good way to get broke. They only cut off Ukraine for outright Burisma theft

The GOP Idiots are undermining the President and his negotiation skills.

Somebody is paying these jerks, probably defense contractors. Defense spending hasn’t had much to do with defense for decades, probably since Eisenhower’s warning about the military/industrial complex.

Why do they hate him so much? Because he’s upending the scam they’ve been running on the US Taxpayer for decades. He’s exposing them for who they are. For their greed. For their incompetence. For their indifference to the people of this country. And for many of them, for their hatred and treasonous attitude toward this country and its citizens.

"Of course, the isolationists have plenty, most of them not worth serious thought."

I'm not sure of your point. Because Germany and other western European countries have brought on their own demise through insane immigration and socialist policies, we must continue to defend them? Against what? - Russia? For what? - NATO?

Pres. Trump's reduction is a clear message to Germany and other NATO members to start pulling their own weight. Germany is one of the richest, if not the richest, nations in Europe. I vote pull even more out. They've been free-loading off us long enough while importing countless rapists, murderers, thieves, etc.

Also, why the Truman didn't make Germany, Italy, and Japan territories or protectorates is beyond me. Whatever happened to the "spoils of war"? Just think if they were US territories like Guam, Puerto Rico, Marianna Islands, Virgin Islands, Samoa, the incredible resources and power the US would have. Iraq/Aftganiscrap are the most recent. I'm tired of our children dying and being maimed for no damn reason other than promoting our ideals that they don't want.

Disclaimer: I am in no way an isolationist. I firmly believe we should stay engaged with allies, try to build more, and especially maintain our seat on the Security Council of the UN.

I was listening to his Oklahoma rally speech. He clearly outlined why he is reducing our troops there. They need to start paying their share of the costs. Why should my tax money go to fund deadbeat Germany, who will not even take care of their share?

Our presence in Europe and elsewhere in the World is in our best interests. A military presence has proved to be a deterrence to conflict more often than the opposite. We are the most wealthy nation on the planet, in large part because we have been a trading nation since our beginning. Unlike most other countries, we have traded both raw materials and finished goods. Most countries can only do one or the other.

For years we relied on our control of the seas to support our trade advantage, but since WWII, air and land power have also become essential. That’s what happens when you are the big dog. Too ofter, politicians have been too quick to use our military power to achieve short term political aims, but that reflects poor political leadership, not a worldwide military presence. The U.S. Army fired it’s last shot on the soil of Western Europe on 8 May 1945. We should be thankful for those 75 years and resolve to ensure it lasts for another 75 years.

That’s what they want. The whole Russia-as-threat claim is a feint.
