“Sides with liberals”? He IS a stinking liberal. So was George W. Bush for all intent and purposes. I think that’s fairly easy to see at this point.

GW was a Bushitter. When asked directly about laws and regulations being Unconstitutional GW said “That ship has sailed, we can’t go on fighting battles we have already lost” BEFORE he was elected the first time, when he should have been his most Conservative. I heard Republicans saying “Bush is MUCH more conservative than his Father”. Rino’s, the party establishment is stock full of them.

I think Bush or at least Roberts made a deal with the Democrats to side with them on their issues in exchange for an easy confirmation and future cash payments.

This is the consequence of the radicals taking over the Democrat party since the 70s. Yes, that drove the Democrats further left, but it also drove the Republicans further left, since anyone who was not a full-blown Communist now seems rather right wing in comparison to the Democrats. Thus people like George W. Bush and John Roberts can fit in with the Republicans, even though they hold views not much different from a mainstream Democrat from the 60s.
